v for vendetta

Jamie_Summers [Edit] [Delete] 18 replies 09:47, 26 August '06

has an average 8.2 on imdb. that makes it the 135th best rated film of all time on there.

however, i might have to email them, as i don't think they've realised that its a complete piece of SHIT, badly scripted, awfully directed, with some really cringworthy turns from just about everyone involved, including natalie portman, who puts on an english accent that variates between irish, scottish, australian, norwegian and everything in between, whilst chewing the scenery as only good actors/actresses can when being controlled by shit directors. nothing new, bad cgi a gogo, crap recycled fight scenes (i guessed it was wachowski produced within 10 minutes), badly researched, i could go on...

so yeh. WANK.

  • True story

I actally posted on IMDB making exactly these points. I alleged that they had been hacked, because it was such an obviously bollocks rating.

And I was howled down within SECONDS, by swarms of geeks who think it is the best film ever.

I assume that most of them are Americans with this bizarre 'Mary Poppins' idea of what Britain is like.

obsessive matrix fans who think the wachowskis can do no wrong.
the thing is dick van dyke's cockney accent was actually better than portman's english. at least his was consistent, whereas hers sometimes changes after every syllable.

      • wachowskis and shyamalan

are the leader in the 'pseudo-intelligent movies' genre.
People think they are looking at something original, intelligent and thought-provoking when it's just a bunch of old ideas digested for the youth of today.

        • to be honest

the second part was easy to get through because we just got drunk and me and my girlfriend just kept repeating portman's dialogue in ludicrous accents. it was funny at the time.

actually whats funnier is how after her head is shaved and she's got the detention dresss thing on she looks totally like dobby the house elf from harry potter.

        • That's very true.

  • it's bad

    but not THAT bad.
But 8.2 is totally incredible !

    lyle | 26 Aug '06, 10:06 | X
  • It's a good film

    deserves <8 though

    JustJay | 26 Aug '06, 10:37 | X
  • I thought 8.2 was a fair rating.

    I really like the film.

I was surprised because, as I'm sure everyone is aware, the two Matrix sequels (especially the last one) rank amongst my most horrific, dull and pointless experiences in a cinema ever.

But, for all the faults that Jamie points out, I really really enjoyed V for Vendetta.

    • mmmmmm

I have yet to see it.

I have read the comic. Nothing like it apparently.

      • all alan moore

film adaptions range from godawful to really average. however frank miller seems to be doing well. sin city fantastic, and the first screenings of 300 say that apparently its the best action film for years, sounds really stunning.

        Jamie_Summers @Mortgage_Boy | 26 Aug '06, 11:16 | X
        • wouldn't say that sin city is fantastic...

but Miller seems indeed to have more luck with the adaptations !

I'm just waiting for them to destroy Watchmen now, just to complete the set.

I think Alan Moore's problem is he tends to say 'I'm having nothing to do with the filming of my comics, I hate Hollywood' and Hollywood goes 'fair enough, we'll make it without you' and proceeds to tear his brilliant ideas into shreds and then get Sean Connery involved.
Frank Miller on the other hand has been fully involved in Sin City and 300, and can put the brakes on any stupid changes or bad decisions.

How good would a film version of League Of Extraordinary Gentlemen been if they'd filmed the exact same story as in the comics? Very good.

          kovacs @Jamie_Summers | 26 Aug '06, 14:32 | X
  • I saw it in the cinema

and couldent help bursting out laughing at some bits. The script was indeed terrible.

    yes_ | 26 Aug '06, 14:36 | X
  • not wank really, if you think about it.

the film isn't great and natalie portman;s accent is far too quaint, so mcuh so that it marrs her performance entirely.
but it has some interesting ideas to it. i reckon it's worth more of a 6.

    neecho | 26 Aug '06, 16:13 | X
    • it's fucking shit

      beyond belief

1812 overture being played while the houses of parliament are being blown up? fuck right off you utter utter cunt of a film

      bobj @neecho | 26 Aug '06, 18:12 | X
    • interesting ideas

that have been used hundreds of times before in better ways. not that i'm saying repetition of ideas is immediately bad, because Equilibrium was even more of a 1984/similar dystopic influential things ripoff than V, but it was a hell of alot more fun and didn't come across as so juvenile and formulaic. see also: The Island. same materials as Equilibrium, Brazil etc, but pure wank.

      Jamie_Summers @neecho | 26 Aug '06, 19:20 | X
      • the Island...

        I'd forgotten this shit movie...
