Music Social More…

so i had the big conversation with my boss

the one where your manager says your workrate isn't sufficient.

i'm apparently just a step away from formal measures.

i tried to do the losers' argument (of just agreeing with everything) and eventually said that i'm feeling flat and stale in my job and have been thinking of teaching. blah blah. he says they wouldn't want to lose me but that i need to do more work.

i'm not sure what to think really.

i should improve my workrate but feel so lifeless at work.

i really do need out.

  • If you can afford to

or just REALLY REALLY want to, leave. Go teach or find a job that'll take you that step closer at least. Life is too short to be unhappy at work.

  • You should probably improve your workrate in the short-term

just enough to avoid formal measures.

But in the long-term you should start looking at new jobs. Or even teacher training.

    • that's the plan

i haven't been able to motivate myself for a while.

  • Make it really clear that you are seriously thinking of leaving.

Watch the bribes start flooding in

    BobbyGrindrod | 18 Aug '06, 16:26 | X
    • That's very true

there's nothing employers hate more than having to replace someone

      • he did say that they really didn't want me to be going but...

        keiths_tele @moribund | 18 Aug '06, 16:29 | X
        • That speaks volumes!

They are trying to make you work harder. They don't want to replace you or they'd never say that. Make out that you don't want to hold them back any longer and that you just find the work too difficult/not challenging enough. Then they might change their mind and say "actually we were just trying to scare you. Please don't go. We have too much to do already without having to do your work while advertising for new staff and doing interviews...and even then we may end up with someone even worse..."

  • i had one of these a few months ago

i blamed it all on a "breakdown in communication" leading to "misunderstandings" and it hasn't been mentioned since..

    guntrip | 18 Aug '06, 16:39 | X
    • I always blame it on

"something serious happening at home". They dont pry, infact they become more understanding.

      It's only a lie.

      A small lie.

      flackcaptain @guntrip | 18 Aug '06, 16:45 | X
      • indeed

i said i was feeling tired and flat and he suddenly started telling me that there is councilling available if i need it.

i feel flat, but not depressed.
