...and probably good news for England too.
cause he's English.
Is he? Or is he just another one of those players that pulled it out for the World Cup but become distinctly underwhelming when tracked through the course of a season?
but to be honest I don't watch enough German football to know.
They need someone who can break up play - that's not Carrick.
Scholes can't see and is getting on. Fletcher is gash, O'Shea is a defender and Richardson will be filling in for Giggs.
I could see how it'd work.
That he played a couple of good games in the world cup and suddenly man utd want him. He used to get booed for England, now he is a sort after midfielder in the England team it seems a bit ridiculous.
because nobody wants to play for them.
But in fairness the people booing him for England prior to the World Cup were people who hadn't seen him play week in/week out for Bayern Munich.
I readily accept I also haven't seen him play week in/week out but Alex Ferguson isn't stupid and wouldn't have been swayed by a couple of decent matches for England. I'm sure he'd have based his decision on much more than this.
18 million for Carrick. If I was him I'd get Gravesen in for a season on the cheap and wait till january or next summer to find a permanent ace midfielder then have Gravesen as back up.
...will be worth every penny, as much as it pains me to have to watch him mature in red. Any colour but red.
Its not fair letting United have the two best non Steven Gerrard midfielders that I can think of while also making a dig at Super Goals by not including him in the equation.
...midfields obviously. Carrick and Hargreaves aren't going to bother a world XI team at this precise moment.
They're losing a match "but our two centre mids our English, go on let us win." Hargreaves is barely English anyway. Just looking at their centre mid Carrick and Hargreaves/Senna. Doesnt really compare to Lampard, Ballack, Makelele, Essien. Gerrard, Alonso, Sissoko, Zenden. And at least Arsenal have a truly world class midfielder in Fabregas.
when Chelsea signed Lampard no-one expected him to become the player he has. And I doubt Liverpool fans were that exicted by Alonso or Sissoko until they saw them play regulalry and realised what they added to the team.
The fans were very excited about Alonso.
but i'd kill for us to have alonso. though carrick has the potential to be more effective than him.
and ronaldo/giggs >>> zenden/pennant.
and i think fabregas is yet to prove himself more than a world class talent. given five years, he should be, but now i don't really think so.
i am biased as fuck though.
Zenden is our back up centre mid, you say potential for Carrick he is older than Alonso, Fabregas might not quite be world class yet but he is definately going to be soon.
but fair enough. i think carrick can become more complete than alonso, who is never going to become a fighting centre midfielder.
i love alonso, but he only really offers amazing passing and i think carrick might be able to offer more.
and i think my point stands if you replace zenden with anyone from your midfield. in the centre you're stronger, on the wings we are.
He will either be playing alongside Sissoko (the ultimate battling midfielder) or Gerrard Who basically does everything. You are better on the wings but Giggs is old and how much back up have you got (I don't really know.) Liverpool have got themselves a very balanced midfield.
and park ahead of kewell, zendedn et al.
and that's my point about carrick really, can be more complete than alonso, as can hargreaves so we can do in two players what you do in three.
falls down with gerrard being fucking amazing and worth two players on his own mind.
and I think Man United need him but I think it's a sign of Ferguson's desperation and a further indication of the decline of Manchester United that they have paid potentially 18.6million for Carrick and are now bidding for Hargreaves (probably) to partner him in central midfield.
on the double post.
Hargreaves and Carrick is a fantastic centre of the park to have though, the bastards.
will someone PLEASE sell Spurs a left winger and a full back? Many thanks.
but I don't think it's a premiership winning partnership.
Not so long ago, Man U had the best midfield in Europe. Now they probably one of the top 3 midfields in the country.
AARON - JJ - ZOKORA - OLD MAN DAVIDS
Pennant- Sissoko - Gerrard - Alonso - Kewell. Maybe shotgun Second.
...I genuinely believe your boys can win the title this season. Pennant and Bellamy are inspired buys.
Still worried about the strikeforce though, glad Kuyt is apparently leaning towards Newcastle (though God knows why) he has flop written all over him. Linked with Klose yesterday that would be an amazing buy a selfish goal scorer is what we need.
...is a knobhead, why oh why oh why Newcastle not Spurs? We'd be sorted with a decent left winger. Bellamy's a top striker, him, Peter and one other and you'll be laughing.
but he's never ever been a 20-goal-a-season striker. The same is true of Crouch so I do feel Liverpool are still short of an out-and-out goalscorer.
bunch have any international class. and gonzales is much better then kewell.
i tip liverpool for second though...
Gonzales has only played three games for Liverpool and hasn't really looked that impressive, Kewell was ace when he played last season, Pennant will be in the England squad possibly pushing for a first team place very soon.
is world class. pennant is a good buy, but i don't think he's a better player than those ahead of him for england. i'm sure gonzales'll prove better than kewell.
Pennant has so much potentail.
He was the most successful crosser last season with Birmingham, only Emile Heskey was on the end of all his crosses.
he is amazing at heading.
now they probably DON'T have one of the top 3 midfields in the country.
I've only just noticed my mistake.
I really really hope Man United and Newcastle don't get back on track this season.
Manchester United will be playing a very defensive formation. This probably won't win them the Prmiership. Which in my eyes, is a very good thing.
...ideally including 3 or 4 teams.
Wenger had buildt an awesome team that should have dominated the premiership a lot more than they did but couldn't because some stupid crook from Russia bought a team with no history.
But we live in a Capitalist Society. Therefore the basic ethic by which society is governed is that whoever accumulates the most money is the most succesful. Therefore, within that, it's entirely appropriate a billionaire should buy a football team and spend millions of pounds bringing success - it's simply a continuation of what's happened in football (and culture) as a whole for years.
I'm not saying I think it's fair or right. Just that you can't really question Abramovich without questioning a lot more about the wider world.
but now might be a good time to tell you about my struggling website.
Where you predict all the scores in the Premiership.
The winner wins lots of money I've been told by the owner.
But we only have a paphetic 24 members or something. SO please be nice.
