which runs from Stockport town centre to Manchester Piccadilly, is supposed to be the one on which you're more likely to be stabbed than on any other in the UK.
But Stockport itself is a hole, and the 192 runs through Edgeley, Levenshulme, Longsight and Fallowfield, neatly encapsulating the roughest areas of South Manchester.
used to go through Middle Park in Eltham. I had to get it to school. During the day you'd get bricks thrown at the windows, someone from my school was on the front of the Mercury for kicking open the driver's door and stealing money, there was always wanker chavs starting arguments etc etc etc... It got so bad they just diverted the route permanently.
You have to superglue your wallet and phone to the inside of your pocket if you travel on the N29 after FROG etc on any given weekend. Eastern European thieves get on in groups of 6/7 and just run around the bus delving into pockets and bags. The driver even warns the passengers when he sees them, just before he pulls up to the stop. It is notorious.
Other than this you get your usual sex pests groping girls and whatnot.
i was getting on it a few weeks ago absolutely paralytic with my friends when some chancer thought he would cop a feel of a friend of mine. Put his hand right up her skirt, absolutely disgusting. My initial reaction was to push him away but then realised that wasn't a good idea. All hell broke loose and I narrowly averted a smack in the face.
I will never understand why they don't just stick a couple of coppers at each bus stop.
on another journey, as soon as a guy got on, he fiddled with the emergency doors so the bus got disabled. The driver then waited until the police came and took the guy away, by which point we were all getting very impatient, and also scared that he would start punching people.
Come on, there are what four hours a night the N29 runs, one every 15 mins, both ways.
So that's about 30 a night or 10,000 a year (a low estimate).
So say there are 100 violent incidents a year that's still only a 1/100 chance of being on a bus with a violent incident, then divide by the average number of passengers to get the odds of it being you.
The rate of buses isn't made up. I just didn't bother getting scrupulously accurate.
They run roughly between 1am and 5am, hence four hours, but it's probably more accurate to say 5 hours.
They're also ever 10 minutes at the weekend and possibly that frequently during the week. So the number of N29s a year might well be closer to 15,000 or more. I was trying to get a worst odds value.
i think the best time was on charing cross rd when the bus driver threw some kids off for not having tickets. they started swearing at him, he swore back and drove off... only to stop thirty yards up the road in a massive traffic jam. cue said kids throwing cans and other rubbish at the side of the bus, while repeatedly pressing the emergency door open button on the outside. this lasted all the way up charing cross road.
actually, it was pretty funny.
1?
53
2?
3?
4?
Have I got it yet?
i knew this was a bad idea.
7?
38?!
stupid bendy buses..
30 actually
people got exploded on that last year...
CLOSEST SO FAR
and you need to add an N.
N631
5?
It's the 29 isn't it?
I knew it would be.
N29
apparently the 29 is 3rd most dangerous 'day' route. i know not of the rest.
haha!
Those are NOT good places to go.
Where does it go?
What happens on it? Stabbings?
This thread is only good because of bobbygeorge
:D
That's why the world is good
Where's he gone? I want him to come and make the pub good.
I'm going to take the tube and the 277 to get there - how dangerous is that?
55
It's gotta be the 55. The only route that only reached its destination three out of every ten times because of punk kids threatening the driver...
the 192

Yes...
But Stockport itself is a hole, and the 192 runs through Edgeley, Levenshulme, Longsight and Fallowfield, neatly encapsulating the roughest areas of South Manchester.
I find the 55 is alright.

I got groped on it a couple of weeks ago
it sucked. I said 'can you take your hand off my arse?' very loudly and everyone turned and stared. Then his mate started.
yup
i was getting on it a few weeks ago absolutely paralytic with my friends when some chancer thought he would cop a feel of a friend of mine. Put his hand right up her skirt, absolutely disgusting. ...
Literally over her?
...
I'm so, so, sorry about that. I'd just dropped a tab of acid and thought she was Rachel Weicz.
And if Rachel Weicz is reading this, I'm so, so sorry...
even when the police are there, it's chaotic!
on another journey, as soon as a guy got on, he fiddled with the emergency doors so the bus got disabled. The driver then waited until the police came and took the guy away, by which point we were all getting very impatient, and also scared that he would start punching people.
Hmm, London's great.
I take the 29 every day.
And i'm supremly happy with it. Especially the being totally free part.
Who's got the statistics?
Come on, there are what four hours a night the N29 runs, one every 15 mins, both ways.

1/1000? Back of a fag packet estimate...
yeah, based on your completely unjustified
"100 incidents a year", a number youve copmpletely plucked from the air that makes no real sense.
Well I reckon it's a good figure
Come on, how many do you reckon it is? :D
Like 10 on each bus on average is a good figure. That's probably too low.
itd be much more accurate
to just make up the rate, and then estimate the number of incidents from it.
The estimate the rate of incidents
then make up the incidents from it? Wut?
The rate of buses isn't made up. I just didn't bother getting scrupulously accurate.

I don't reckon my figures are wildly unlikely. :D
also: 1/1000 is the badly estimated chance of it happening PER BUS
i often take 4 buses a day.
thus i should expect an incident a year.
You take 4 N29s a DAY?
I find that very hard to believe.
This is an estimate of N29s only.
i never had any real problems on the N29

That's a great story
Someone I know recently discovered a bus driver getting head from (male) tramp in the toilets at Euston station in the middle of the afternoon...
male tramp
but male bus driver?
Yes, sorry
it was two guys.
no, i don't, thankfully.
your story is ace, however.
.
The 29? That surprises me.
The only time i've had trouble on a bus was the N243 when some youts' tried to rob me whilst we were passing through Tottenham.
the 243
is the stupidest bus route in London.
Some 'youts'?
.
Yeah - some youts. Some 'scallwags'. Some 'Ya get me's'. Some 'rudeboys'.
Choose whatever euphemism you like.
The 243 is indeed a stupid bus, but its handy when I visit my friends in Dalston.
Yeah sorry
I watch My Cousin Vinny far too much...
Why, what's he doing?
Bah hahahahahahahahahaha
I've only seen trouble on the 133
Nothing serious, just a bit of a fight. Though someone got stabbed to death on it the week before I moved to London.

[GODWIN]
hey
I watched Eva 2.0 at the weekend. Pretty sure it broke my sense of reality for a good 12hrs.
Glad to hear it :)
