got from comic book geek con.
the Simpsons have got worse since the turn of the century
really shakey camcorder footage of an animatic..
the crowd there seem to be laughing at unfunny things
*whispers*they are american.
But I don't think this is going to be much cop.
Unless, of course, they've been saving up all the really good jokes that were missing for the last 7/8 years and are using them in the movie.
But that's not likely.
e.g. Homer being attacked by Wolves in the second part of the preview
I've given up watching new episodes.
....i'm afraid. Yeah its got a little more oddball and scattershot and theres more duff episodes than there used to be, but the simpsons is still far better than virtually any programme ever even now.
For example, recent episode made me piss myself
Simpsons escape from ship
Crewman 1 "they're getting away"
CRewman 2 "dont worry, that walrus will get them"
Crewman 1 "that's the father"
Crewman 2 "but he's just eaten a seal"
But for me something about it has fundamentally shifted and it's no longer funny. I think it's Homer becoming dumber. Before he used to have flashes of intelligence, but now he's just completely simple.
he acts like a four year old constantly now, and it's a real betrayal of the character.
plus, the plots are just too "wacky".
It feels like they're trying way too hard somehow.
is the worst of them all.
...so your arguement is that a classic series 7 episode doesn't stand up to a bad current episode? well that goes without saying, but there was crap episodes back then too.
I agree that the GREAT episodes are fewer and further between now, but would you really rather they made no new episodes? I certainly want it to go on and on. And Homer was a moron when the series hit its peak, he hasn't got stupider, the plots have just got a little more surreal.
I'll defend the Simpsons to the death, however the death may well be the movie. That could finally be the shark jumping moment that they've avoided so far...
they would only do a movie if it was to rap the series up.
but one has been rumoured for years. one "leaked" plotline had the family winning tickets for the world premiere of The Phantom Menace and travelling to LA to see it..
I reckon the movie will impress...
Groenings not stupid, he knows that there's going to be shit loads of hype behind it, and anything less than genius may well bring about the demise of The Simpsons...unless of course that's what he wants...
Ahh...well...Futurama's back soon:D
but not as slick, which is what adds an edge to the later ones.
But take the one where Krusty get jailed and Sideshow Bob is revealed as the villain. There's so much good stuff in so many of those episodes.
I got tired a long time ago with malcontents unable to accept that they've simply been idealising Simpsons episodes from the past - especially those from before season 5 which were, for want of a better word, unfunny. Through a genius plan I had to simply purchase every episode made off a guy on Ebay, it's plainly obvious that SImpsons has maintained a consistant quality and that is why people keep watching it despite some bitching that it's no longer funny.
No they weren't.
That said Season 9 contains my favourite episode, where they go to New York. Nothing beats "and then came the CHUDS" or "Khlav Khlash! No fork! Stick! Stick!"
Aside from that, you're so, so wrong.
for you and all of us who think like you
that wasn't long ago. Genius. You can hardly expect a series to run this long and not lose a bit, just be happy you still get the occasional gem.
I think that The Simpsons have always had difficulty in integrating special guest stars who play themselves, rather than merely voicing new characters. Although the Peter Frampton episode was good...
