I'm keeping an 'eye' on the 'Town' this year - have always had a soft spot for them and I like Roeder and can see a top 4 finish on the cards - at the expence of Arsenal - ha ha.
will be great this year...
but if we get 2 strikers and a full-back we should have a go at the top 6.
...presumably you haven't got that much money and strikers are obviously expensive. I don't reckon West Ham'll sell Ashton and I think you'll have to look elsewhere.
At the moment it's hard to see Newcastle doing much better than between 8th or 10th purely 'cos of the striker situation but I do agree that, if you can get the right strikers in (although that may a big 'if') you could be looking at 5th or 6th.
How's Newcastle's central defence these days? Have you bought anyone there over the Summer?
Moore, Taylor, Bramble, Ramage, and Boumsong. Boumsong will be sold, so we probably need another centre-back. We also need cover for Carr and Babayaro, as neither are that inspiring....
He should have come to Liverpool.
Then again, we don't really need him with Kewell, and possibly Zenden.
I know I'd rather have Duff and N'Zogbia. They OWN your left wing.
Newcastle are cursed to mid-table mediocrity, for ever.
On paper, they look pretty good sometimes. But when you see them play, they never is.
Also, who needs a left wing when you've got Stevie G? He instantly makes us one of the best teams in the league.
We've finished in the top seven, 4 times in the last 5 years. And if Souness took charge of your club you'd be lucky to still be top 6....
the damage he can do from the early 90s....
when we got rid of Souness we got rid of any danger of relegation.
you're just jealous.... :)
Obviously he struggled at West Ham but he's got more experience now and I reckon Newcastle could spring a surprise.
Unless Villa get a good manager in, they may just be going down though. I predict Man City and Sheff Utd to join them.
I'd not realised he was evil. In that case, he's definitely a bad appointment.
has already had his honeymoon period. The fans were doubting him this summer after the dust had settled. But this week has restored my faith. And we've got Wigan at home in the first week. Nothing will go wrong....
But it wasn't even his fault the honeymoon period ended. We ended the season on such a huge high that the fans have had time since then to slowly come back down to earth.
I was worried that we wouldn't sign anyone and that Roeder didn't have the nous in the transfer market to succeed. Now that he has signed Duff all is well again :)
you're probably right...
he'll leave West Ham so soon.
if you give us Ashton. No wait....
can't really see newcastle being there. A shadow of their former selves but not relegation candidates quite yet.
but was a bit off his feed last season. A move somewhere a little less demanding will do him good.
OUR absolute idiot.
Why he would go to Newcastle over Liverpool or Tottenham. Just why?
Chelsea rejected a bid from Spurs, and Liverpool never offered anything for him. So we were actually his only option. Fine by me. And if what he says his true, he would have chosen us anyway. Although I doubt that.
but we still really need a striker. Also the newspaper said Duff was £10 million?
The newspaper just assumed we had bid more than Spurs.
'I don't expect the same level of success at Newcastle'. It's a good job, Damien! I'm chuffed we got him though...
the BBC said it for him, actually. Still though
he doesn't expect the same level of success. Even at Liverpool he wouldn't get the same level of success.
With his help and a decent striker or two, we can get somewhere near the top 5
Wigan paid more (by half a million quid) for Emile Heskey???? Birmingham... laughing all the way to the bank!
laughing at Wigan!
