Prefuse 73
I'm considering purchasing Security Screenings but its received mixed reviews. Some say he's lost his touch on recent releases but not from what I've got. Am I the only one who thinks Surrounded by Silence is a great album? Anyway Security Screenings, yay or nay?
I don't know
but I have one word extiguisher, which is pretty good, but I prefer RJD2, who is similar, but a bit more meaty.
Secuirty Screenings is a definite return to form.
Nothing new, but a concise summary of everything that made One Word and Vocal Studies great albums.
It's probably the weakest
of the Prefuse albums (in my opinion). It's certainly not as good as One Word Extinguisher, and I'll always have a soft spot for Vocal Studies... due to the way I stumbled across it
If you like his other stuff, buy it. You wont be massively disappointed or owt like that
I preferred it to surrounded by silence,
but I still don't think it's great, it's ok.
He really needs to do just something different and stop relying on the people he collaborates with to make his music more interesting.
One Word Extinguisher is still amazing though, and the stuff before that. But he's still coasting on the same sound.
I hope the next thing he does is better...
Speaking of
Scott Herren, what did people think of Piano Overlord? I have a lovely packaged vinyl copy but not sure what to make of his sound.
ok
i think security screenings is pretty cool mini album.
someone told me that prefuse is collaborating with battles (one of them , i think it might be john steiner ) for a release!!
which ya'll know will be sick.
Fucking rubbish.
Same goes for the most recent Savath & Savalas record: snooze.
I suppose the nature of his music is some what limited, Security Screeings is so compressed and micro-produced, I doubt he can take that glitch sound any further. However we've got two great P73 albums, two great S&S ones, and a pretty decent Delarosa one, so can't complaine.
Continuing
the theme then (as you can tell I'm on a big Scott Herren trip right now), what the "Read the Books" EP like? I only need that and "screenings" to complete the Prefuse collection, then its on to the side projects.
read the books is great
i preferred it to surrounded...
Read the Books is ok
It sounds nice, but he's stripped all the depth and meanings from songs. The most interesting thing about the books sound is the possible narrative that arises from the disparate vocal samples but he seemed to have missed that and instead just further chopped and glitched the songs.
'Folk Songs for Trains, Trees and Honey' by Savath & Savalas is amazing, floaty ambient electronica stuff. The Delarosa and Asora albums are worth investigating too.
What sorta
sound is the Delarosa stuff?
I think there's still room for the glitch sound to be taken further.
To an extent people like Jimmy edgar and Jackson have done that.
He just needs to be a bit more imaginative with his samples and stuff. I swear he literally uses some of the exact same sounds/samples that he has done since his first album.
