it really lost it recently but was still good to have varied "live" music on tv in the afternoons. Favourite performances anyone?
doing pyramid song. Really funny watching the crowd trying to dance to it.
and Radiohead on TOTP. it was that performance too lol
I feel old
Ah, the memories!
Nirvana doing Teen Spirit and just totally taking the piss
Manic Street Preachers doing Revol (i think) in balaclavas with big torches around the stage
Supergrass doing Sun Hits The Sky (again, not sure of the song) where they all played the wrong instruments and mimed badly on purpose
My god how terrible has it been recently though!
and here is a crap quality version of it
i remember it clearly.
Keep top of the pops 2 though.
before it changed studios and tried to look cool and hip with its trance theme song......
For me it ended 3 years ago
I stopped watching the show a few years ago, I just lost interest, but it's TOTP! It's been going far too long to be axed!
It was brilliant, they can't axe it! I reallu just got into it again as well. They were actually getting good line ups when it moved to sundays.
Theres always an upside though, fern cotton will be jobless!
I think of Top of the Pops in a retrospectively anyway.
The Jools Holland line-up's are slowly moving more and more like the old Top of the Pops ones.
but Jools Holland is on at some ungodly hour on a Friday. That's the main point. You also would never have Justin Timberlake with the Flaming Lips on Jools Holland.
Is this the last of music on tv in the primetime on terrestial television?
Or did I make that up?
"An Adult Music Show"
Goes out Friday night and it's horrible.
new show at midnight which has some NME approved bands on each week and some T4 goons presenting, although it's on around midnight.
I forget it's even on.
...says nothing to me about my life.
I only watch 120 minutes, and Jools if theres anything good on. I have absolutely no idea what is in the charts, and like things this way!
First Smash Hits, and now TOTP.
I hate change, and the 21st Century is starting to piss me off. Gah.
when they went back to shitness. When Britpop was everywhere, TOTP was actually worth watching since it did have a good live vibe and it looked great too. But I remember them just deciding to ruin this after a bit. It's a shame.
The ORIGINAL totp2 with Johnny Walker was ace too, you know? When it would repeat a couple of the best bits from the previous TOTP, the 'classic' bits were truly classic and in the middle they'd show a total mad video. That was actually where I first heard/saw Eels with Novocaine for the Soul. Awesome...
thread from last year, but I can't be arsed. Boo :(
and wee-wee and sick-sick.
I don't know. It was just full of memories. Like a memory graveyard. Or something.
yazz doing 'the only way is up'
i was young and it was on every week for ages. it was great.
i also have vague memories of seeing iron maiden do a song on a big rock somewhere.
I remember watching the Blur / Oasis thing when I was about 4 or something, and reeeeeeeeeeeeeally wanting Oasis to win.
After they changed it around 2001 or something to what it looks like now, it got really, really bad.
I bought Country House
I got Roll With It :/
I can't remember a single thing from that age. At all.
I bought both. I was such a fence sitter. I felt like I'd personally let one band down if I didn't buy the single. I also bought the Charlatans single that week as my outside bet :)
I was trying to be cool, ok
I remember going to watch Rosie and Jim live at the Preston Guild Hall and crying because it was so terribly boring.
I remember searching a Majorcan toy shop for the black Power Ranger figure, and FINDING IT!
I remember all.
but that was because they locked Bungle in a cage : (
I don't have an ability to really store memories.
Except the really embarrassing ones, obviously.
My past is like a series of polaroids of all the worst mistakes I ever made that I can just sort of flick through cringe over.
the time or the place for Bright Eyes lyrics.
