Hadn't heard a note before, they were ace! Where do I start on the buying front?
8/10 Mike Diver seal of approval.
Biggest Bluest Hi-Fi (2002)
Their debut which is very much like the poppiest bits of mid-period B&S, very cheerful with rather clever lyrics. 'Eighties Fan' is the stand-out track.
Underachievers Please Try Harder (2003)
On this one they got a bit more variation and they resemble B&S much less than before. They seem to have spent a bit more time on the arrangements as well, so the sound is a bit fuller than on their debut.
Let's Get Out of This Country (2006)
The new one - haven't heard it yet ...
the new one so buy it first.
But buy the others after...
but start on the new one
Lloyd, I'm ready to be heartbroken is my song of this summer, Fact.
It's been 2 weeks that I always have it on my mind...
Biggest Bluest Hi-Fi is the best one, but like everyone else has said, they're all very, very good.
a Japanese release which has a better version of Eighties Fan than the one on Biggest Bluest HiFi. Infact, you should start with the 1997 demo I have.
Going to see them tomorrow night and looking forward to it.
It was ace.
Underachievers Please Try Harder is probably the best place to start.
Monpot. I should probably have said hello last night - were you in the City Arms after the gig? And at the Spencer McGarry gig tonight?
The new album would be an excellent place to start.
Rare UK Bird does indeed have a very lovely version of Eighties Fan on it, but as it is... well, ...rare... and was released on the now defunct Quattro label in Japan, it probably isn't the most likely thing you'll find in your local record shop...
and they were only a bus away...
I'd say "Underachievers Please Try Harder".
It's got a vulnerability that's lacking in what I've heard of the new one; the newbie has to much glossy emotion and I don't get into much.
