it doesnt really mean much does it? its not going to make indie bands any more formulaic, because when you get big credible indie hits, they will be the songs from outside of that system.
the program only analyses the musical composition so it's pretty limited as it doesn't take anything else into account
I'd like a copy of this program - it might show up how heavy the marketing industry is sitting on the music
a program that judges how popular music will be based on how popular past music was ?
Wont that just mean they will churn out the same old shite over and over ?
Not that they dont already...
bean head on that photo.
but imagine the reverse scenario
A&R guy "Mr Williams and Miss Ciccone have delivered their new albums"
label boss "let's run them through the machine"
an hour later
"OK. Computer says they're utter wank - they're both dropped"
that they can release any old wank and it will sell in it's millions.
I would see this being used when they are unleashing new pop acts on the public.
Once the image has been sorted to a tee they will use the program to give them that pop-tastic song that will make the kids happy.
but don't you think that any device which could bring forth a cull of A&R men (and it is mostly men) is a useful thing?
"It has been said you've got a better chance of winning a lottery jackpot than getting into the top 10."
Would that be true?
I'd imagine alot less people attempt to get a ten song than by lottery tickets, then comparing how many british people (british to make it easier) get into the top ten and how many people win the national lottery would it not be alot more likely to get a top ten than to win the lottery?
Then again 1) it's about skill not luck and 2) I havn't a clue what the hell I'm talking about.
