Indie-Envy
Why should Mr. Brainlove, Dom, Crablin, and a few others have all the glory? As if they're the DiS elite! Ha!! We're smarter than they are...erm, sometimes.... You know what I'm saying, doncha? Doncha, sorta?? They're always posting and writing about obscure bands with such familiarity we're sometimes made to feel inadequate that we don't know the Be Your Own Pet gal as well as we know Chrissie Hynde. OK, maybe that's just me. My therapist is always reminding me that not everything is a contest. Most of life is merely an exihibion, he's fond of saying. Please don't ask me what the shrink means by that, cos fuck if I know. But it sounds right...(ahem)
Your Turn To Show-off! Tell yer fellow DiSers about the album that slipped past every one...every one but you!
(The DiS elite are of course welcome to post here...I's just teasing ya's. My therapist calls it Indie-Envy. $200/hr and that's the best he can do. Indie-Envy. Oi vey.)
Me:
Built To Spill - You in Reverse. Fantastic album by long time indie fav's. A mature mix of strengths of Perfect From Now On and Ancient Melodies of the Future. Stunning guitar work: interwoven guitar-play is BTS's trademark and YiR won't let you down. The hooks go down like lemonade on a hot day and it's only upon close inspection you realize how freakin' complex the arrangements are. A perfect place for a newcomer to give this band a try. 8/10.
