Is there anything you look for a complete, entire lack of, in music?
For me, anything that sounds very, very unlike any cock rock / power ballad 'classic' is already getting some kudos.
I realised when I saw an advert for 'I LOVE DAD' or whatever. It makes me feel uneasy. I cannot even look at these bands' videos or anything.
I think its why I love Joy Division so much. It couldn't be more different to all that cheesy, overblown (understatemnt) horrid filth that tends to linger around VH2, Magic, and KeRrAnNgG.
There's nothing better than hearing one of these 'I LOVE GNR, dude' people spitting and complaining at how bad the Fall and JD are.
It plucks my heart strings.
there is something to be enjoyed in the realms of which you speak
if nothing else they (e.g. hawkwind, yes, boston etc) can be considered to be geniuses because of their subscription to such brazen rock.
i say, embrace the silliness. there is nothing wrong with it. it's like genuinely liking arnie movies. but still knowing they are utterly implausible and over the top. over the top can be great!
indeed
cock rock bands rocking out = ace
cock rock band doing ballads = BLEURGH
i don't think so.
well, i do.
but i still like to cradle a tear in the duct of my eye occasionally upon hearing every rose has its thorn.
i am going to dig out some bonnie tyler now \m/
not that she did every rose has its thorn
before some bright spark pipes up.
i'm holding out for a hero 'til the end of the niiiight
no, that was poison
"you got POISON to play at our wedding?!?"
"actually, we're Cyanide - a loving tribute to Poison"
:D
Simply: no
I'd give anything a chance once, innit
Nope, not at all
I might not be too fond of certain things but I'll listen to owt.
can we all sing
"i just died in your arms tonight" together for a bit. it would be nice.
no?
just me then:
I JUST DIED IN YOUR ARMS TONIGHT! MUST HAVE BEEN SOMETHING YOU SAID!
I lvoe the Happy Hardcore
version of that song.
I rule.
no, i rule.
but for completely different reasons. mmm, whisky. bye!
i'm sure there's decent reggae
but i've never heard it.
i can't be arsed to look either, i'm too busy as it is.
now now.
don't be silly.
there's plenty. i can direct you to some if you like.
*sigh*
go on then :p
lyrically good would be nice.
jees boy
jeeeeees.
are they lyrics?
(i really would like recommendations)
Nope...
In any style of music there's sure to be some great stuff and some absolute rubbish.
anything
goes
decent reggae: toots and the maytals & desmond dekker are the obvious two
oh i see
toots and the maytals i find annoying, desmond dekker i don't know a lot about, will check him out.
ps
thank you :)
The thing that usually puts me off
...is any kind of macho posturing and showoff musicianship, which are generally one and the same thing. Reducing music to sport.
"I think its why I love Joy Division so much.

You realise that two of these probably show 'Love Will Tear Us Apart' on a regualar basis? i think i've seen it happen on VH2 anyway. i wouldn't be surprised if they were on one of those I HEART DAD compilations either, seeing as one of them had 'I Fought The Law' on it.
ps. being blinkered is still being blinkered. Just saying.
Interesting facts:
VH2 shows LWTUA every now and then, but not on the scale of Guns n Roses. Last weekend, was 'GNR Weekend'.
If you watch VH2 for 24 hours, and November Rain isn't shown twice, I'll start thinking about what you say.
The Clash are shit. They're a typical example of one of those bands where one 'respectable' or fashionable journalist says they're "legendary" and everyone just accepts it, without stopping to think about their actual music. London Calling is an absolutely pathetic excuse for a song. I Fought The Law - nice little riff, pisses over the rest of their stuff, but isn't strong enough to give a band untouchable status.
Nonsense...
..."London Calling" is a great song. One of my favourite intros. "English Civil War" is far better though imo.
But "This is England", "Rock the Casbah", "Groovy Times", "Lost in the Supermarket", "Spanish Bombs", "Train in Vain", "I'm So Bored of the USA", "Stay Free"? The Clash have done loads of great sngs.
I'm willing to accept that they're maybe a touch over-rated. But shit? Definitely not.
Any 90s generic 'trance'
record. All that shit that came out with a simple tinny bit and some random woman singing something along the lines of:
"Keep on risin'. Ain't never gonna be a love that's more surprisin'"
It's dirge
surprise loving?
You want some?
Wouldn't be much of a surprise now, though
unoriginality
LLOLOLO
jangly indie chord progressions
and yelping faux philosophical vocals. why do i quite like razorlight though?
