seems to have leaked
anyone heard it yet??
Starlight, Invincible and map of the problematique seem to stand out.
I think it's more mature, and generally their best album.
it's very good...
im fact, if any established alternative rock group releases as good a comeback single as Supermassive Black Hole this year I'll buy a hat, start wearing it and then I'll eat the bastard....
when i first heard it (supermassive...) i thought - 'what the fuck!'
but its actually pretty cool and brave of them to try it
feels really out of place in the album. I don't like it.
Americans got Knights Of Cydonia as the first single... we got the better deal I reckon, as that songs a bit nothing-y.
and it makes you think it will be massive. It isn't though, and on the whole, fails to go anywhere big.
I thought 'it's their US single, this must be a bit special...' then it finished and I went 'oh........okay'
But on the whole, I like the album. It feels like a progression, and a sense of new found maturity. It isn't as rock-epic, but the songs build more, and aren't boring on the 10th or 11th listen like previous efforts
like Knights of Cydonia because it's barmy!
I don't like the album as much as anything else they've done though. It's probably their weakest, I think. Time will tell.
it's their best album so far, I like all of it (I actually like KOC as an album track, just not as a single) rather than loving some of it and tolerating the rest, like I usually do with Muse albums. Very progressive, both in the 'Prog Rock' and in the 'progressing from their previous sound' senses of the word... very brave, for a band in their position (ie just about on the cusp of the 'big time')
and i'm really impressed
i mean i used to really love that 'muse sound' that they had, but they totally moved on, and its great!
but most of previous albums were filler. This seems to be fairly consistent.
Wait till you hear it live. Everything they have done is way better live. And I haven't even heard the full album, just the one big weekend gig and SMBH.
Can't fucking wait for them to tour, and they'd better play the Odyssey in Belfast.
a distinct lack of anything vaugely "poppy," and I'm going to get fucking killed for saying that, but I'll stand by it, on the new album. Muse write some blinding tunes, New Born, Plug In Baby, Hysteria, Muscle Museum, Bliss, Dead Star, Time is Running Out, you know their singles are great little gems but there's nothing like that on the album. Nothing stands out that way, there's nothing to really sing along too and I'm totally for that sort of progression, I really am, I just always liked the way Muse played both sides of the game. "We're going to push our sound as far as we can but that doesn't mean we're not going to right some awesome catchy hooks either." I'm not going to write this album off just yet, I love Muse far too easily to give up on it, but I'm just going from my inital first listen, I'm sure in time, I'll "get" it.
I relistened to OOS the other day and I forgot just how many excellent songs were on there. Micro Cuts is amazing!
And "Map of the Problematique" sounds like "Enjoy the Silence" at the start, which is ALWAYS a good thing.
*giggles like a kid*
"I actually like KOC..."
*joins in with the giggling*
...the vocoder bit after the chorus (that just says supermassive i think) sounds EXACTLY like the vocoder bit in Teen Wolf soundtrack masterpiece "The Big Bad Wolf". Fact.
was severely underwhelmed by this album. i'm a fan of all their past stuff but to me this album just sounds like:
OOS effects + Absolution lyrics.
it may be a good album, but i find it far too predictable to even get a 4th or 5th listen tbh. The acoustic songs sound out of place and contrived whilst KOC, as someone ^ said, starts impresively but seems to fall flat.
I believe it's quite a safe album, with SMBH being the standout track on there in terms of diversity, which makes its choice as a single quite daring.
Maybe my opinion is just biased because i was expecting more, or maybe muse have just got to that stage inwhich they have their own "sound", therefore it's hard to be fully surprised by the material. It's certainly not a bad album, just one thats been made before, albeit in chunks from their previous work.
Just stole the bastard today, enjoying it, but it does seem quite Absolution Part 2 in places. Others its immense, Starlight, Supermassive Black Hole, Map Of The Problematique and Assasin in particular.
if Supermassive Black Hole is a standout track.
I'm gonna wait and see when it comes out, though, because the tracks I have heard have kinda killed my excitement.
Map Of The Problematique is the standout track alongside Exo-Politics, City of Delusion, Invincible and Starlight. SMBH is just a complimetary addition to that list
I've got them in rar format. which program do I use now?
i'm an obsessive fan but my god it's brilliant.
in no position to properly review it without simply praising and praising and praising.
that's not really what some people wnatto hear -especially when listening to it and not thinking sa highly of it as me.
but i've never heard a better band, and this album is brilliant.
startlight seems to jump out at me as being a single.
i think my favourite is city of delusion.
eastern strings, grandness, museness.
just a very unique song.
tehy are all quite unique songs in fact, but teh album works as an album really well.
hats off to the teignmounth lads.
City Of Delusion. That wonderful trumpet solo makes it. However, as much as I like Invincible, it does sound very similar to Falling Away With You.
what a tune.
Most of his artwork (especially recently) is meaningless bollocks. The Yourcodenameis:milo album's art was really, really good though.
The Mars Volta artwork he does is a bit hit and miss. I liked the 'Absolution' art, though.
definitely hit and miss, the cranberries one is a bit odd.
I'm just confused by the four men in extravagent suits, everything else seems to be like your standard muse album cover.
DO NONE OF YOU READ WIKIPEDIA?!
it all becomes clear...
what are the suits about?
but will hunt it down now.
There's a competition on their website for a free, fan-only gig at Shepherd's Bush Empire on 28th June btw. That would be sooooo good.
