...any thoughts on the new Underworld material?
but 2. Is that the title? Because it's fucking shite.
I don't hold out much hope though.
i probably heard it and didn't get blown away.
ace title though.
so shut up bamos.
they lost the naming thing when they decided not to call that album "Tonight, Matthew, We're Going to Be Underworld". Great title. Why did they wimp out. Didn't they call it 'Beaucoup Fish' instead? What?
Looking forward to this, especially as it's meant to be UW at the moodiest and darkest. Then again if Rick and Karl made a musical birthday card you'd be pretty sure it'd be worth a listen.
The title is a bit bipkins bapkins... Mr Hyde likes his wordplay don't he?
'You're shimmering dirty Wonder Woman hard times / on your telephone dial discarding everything on your telephone / and in walked numb angel'
he uses a lot of the stuff his children write down. Which explains this one i guess.
this was the name of a new band. I had hopes for them being incredible.
they're an old band who are (well, have been) incredible.
except Born Slippy and the one that goes 'Mongoose!'. I like those though. What should I listen to now?
then Second Toughest in the Infants then Beaucoup Fish then Everything Everything.
which albums are the songs I know on?
there is a greatest hits out too...
should I get that?
Which is the mongoose song?
But Born Slippy isn't on an Underworld album.
it's Shudder/King of Snake
I shall listen to more Underworld
and it's got there hits on so yeah :0)
i can't remember which one the MONGOOSE one is but i distinctly remember it. Not listened to their older stuff for a while...
It's King of Snake and it's on Beaucoup Fish
that's the one
I'd start off with the best of 92-02, mainly cos it's got Nuxx (lager lager), Cowgirl (an eraser of love), King Of Snake (mongoose) and the excellent Dark Train (runs this garage) on it... plus a load more of course. If you like what you hear, any of the first three albums is a safe bet.
Personally I don't reckon they'll ever get better than Second Toughest, but put a pin anywhere in their nineties back catalogue and you can't go far wrong really. That said, the recent bundled releases have been wicked, and Pizza For Eggs is pretty much up there with their best.
easily the greatest dance album EVAH!!
This is nice... like the score for the Silent Hill games when everything goes all foggy. Lovely vocals by Juanita too. I thought Pizza For Eggs was about as ambient as UW go, but it's nice to see they can still put out some quality downtempo compositions. Bargain at only a fiver :)
Want to hear the recent soundtracks they've done now!
i don't know much about what they've done since they were on Keeping It Peel a couple of years ago.
They've done the soundtrack for Breaking & Entering ( http://www.imdb.com/title/tt044345 ) and are currently working on the score for the new Danny Boyle sci-fi flick Sunshine ( http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0448134 ).
Random trivia no. 1: Danny Boyle originally wanted to use the entire Dubnobasswithmyheadman album for the Trainspotting OST...
otherwise Random might sue. Or ISU,E.
And as I'd recently been listening to the Riverrun Project series I thought I'd resurrect this topic briefly.
Yeah, they were good weren't they? Interestingly a few bits and pieces of them made it into their live shows. In fact, I got hold of about 5 concerts they did in the space of a year via their official site and every single one had 2/3's different material being tried out.
And you don't get THAT with your average band...
Have you heard the snippets of 'new' stuff from Wordimagesoundplay (the Japan-only Tomato PlayStation game from '04)? They're over on the Darktrain board. Amazing to think "Parc" goes back that far. These boys are switched on.
I worked out yesterday why I love Arab Strap's "Trippy" so much: it's the Strap doing Underworld. AKA a high-point of perfection on Planet Underrated.
