Things I learnt from 120 Minutes last night
Didn't watch it all the way through, because I was fatigued from a day of football and cricket in the sun. But what I did see I liked
I'm a bit slow on the uptake with this lot, but Someone Like You by Revl9n is pretty awesome. The video is dripping with sex, and the song is just as good. It's here http://www.zshare.net/download/01-someone-like-you-mp3.html for free
Computer Camp Love by some Norwegian folks called Datarock is about a year old now (I think), but hadn't seen the video before. It's pretty good! The song is brilliant and you can see the video here http://www.datarock.no/music.html. Nice Grease references in the song too, if you like that kind of thing
And thirdly, a bit of hippedy hop. Kick Push by Lupe Fiasco is a pretty mid tempo tune about skateboarding. It sounds pretty mainstream, so it'll probably be around on tele/radio soon (it might already be, for all I know - but this was the first I've heard of it) Apparently there's a Pharrel remix floating around somewhere too. It's here http://www.mp3int.com/eng/download_mp3/351012/10622455/Lupe_Fiasco_Kick_Push/ for free
120 minutes
is our god.
It's ace, isn't it?
And it is alright to post individual links like this, isn't it? I wouldn't want to feel the Crab Wrath
crabs wrath
?
Why can't there just be a..
120 minutes channel? and it can be free! And replace itv! and pay me to watch it!
120 Minutes will rule us all
Apart from I seriously doubt that's actually the new Semi-Finallists video they've been playing recently under that caption.
It rocks!
I've discovered so many new artists from that. It's unbelievable, some of the stuff they play.
Anyone like Robocop Kraus?
YES
A LOT. Sweaty fun live as well.
Americans INVENTED 120 Minutes
...and yet, tis no more here. MTV has Alternative Nation, an hour show they show once a week a 3.30 in the morning 'r something. Life is so-o-o unfair... (sniff, sniff)
Yo, is there an online video site which plays whatever me-wants, whenever me-wants it?
Cos frankly I don't much care for any video shows on TV cos it seems like I've always gotta sit through 45 min of dreg for 8 minutes of 'cool'. Although, VH1's alternative show works really well as a commercial substitute when I'm watching another program. (Even the BBC america has commercials...and me predicts your BBC will start carrying them too someday. This prediction is based on absolutely nothing as I haven't the foggiest notion of BBC politics et al.)
People over here pay a 'TV license'
Of about £120 a year (I think - I might be wrong) which basically means you're paying for the BBC to not have adverts. So a population of households is funding the whole corporation, basically
The idea is that they provide a 'service' to 'entertain, educate and inform'. They do manage to do this better than pretty much any other channel (on the whole), and it funds the numerous radio stations and online stuff
However, people hate the idea of not having an option, as the TV license is compulsory. Many argue that they should be able to just not pay it, and not be eligible for the service. But that'd be impossible, given the radio and internet off-shoots can't be suscribed to as easily as the TV channels. Also, tabloid newspapers over here have recently exposed some of the salaries of high earners at the BBC. This pissed a lot of people off, as they're paying people like Jonathon Ross millions to do a once weekly radio show and a once weekly TV show
I'm assuming you don't pay a TV license in America. Hence, you get adverts. Which, thinking about it, is pretty fucking cheeky. It's still the BBC, so they are getting funding from corporate sponsors, just doing so where we can't see it
I've watched TOTP
every week now for a few weeks, after a hella long break from it. Much better now. Good work.
the BBC is allowed a commercial arm
under it's charter, hence why they can sell videos etc.
if BBC America didn't have adverts, it would have to be funded out of the license fee and that's just silly. as well as promoting British-produced shows abroad (very good idea) it provides a flow of money into the Corporation for other projects, which keeps the license down so you can't argue too much.
!
Kick Push is probably my fav track at the moment, all hail Kanye West...
re: guntrip
Interesting, I never actually thought about them being allowed to sell DVDs etc
And yeah, it certainly is a good idea about them promoting shows abroad (The Office, anyone?)
But the fact about them keeping the license down: who is asking them to spend so much? Obviously, things like Planet Earth are well worth the money. But you can't deny that they seem to spunk a helluva lot of spondoolic on shite actors' wages, so that they don't lose face in the battle between terrestrial channels
TV Licencing: A small rant
i dont watch tv, cos i live in a tiny room with no place to set up a tv. i get letters every week or two telling me what will happen if i dont pay my licence.
i HATE the fact that they spend so much money threatening me with letters, just assuming that i HAVE to watch tv.
cunts.
I liked that Datarock thing too
but really I only ever actually like about two videos on each different 120 minutes programme. It's worth watching for the two good ones though.
You wouldn't get any good ones on MAXIMUM MTV2 100% or whatever it's called.
!
No way, the music sounds like it's come of the Incredibles soundtrack :-)
A good thing.
I'm down the Alcxxk rant too, hear hear.
i miss 120 minutes
it got me into some good fucking bands a couple of years ago when i still had it. m83, schneider tm, hexstatic etc.
