Who wants to make a DiS profile for him?
or the bad one?
Donovan is my cousin.
This is actually true.
It's the only part of my family that has money. Millionnaire by the time he was 18. And that was in the 60s...
Where's MY share eh?
I agree though, make a profile!
donovon was great...so much more than the Dylan ripoff he's often lazily tagged as.
Season of the Witch is superb menacing garage track...and the whole of the UK sunshine superman album is a worthy folk/psychy listen
he was tragically unhip at the time.
I dunno...he started off being slated by the press for being a dylan copyist, which was pretty much 'cos he wore a cap
By 66/67 he was very influential on lots of US garage acts- more appreciated in the states for sure, and tonnes of bands covered 'season of the witch' etc...that track he did with the Jeff Beck group was ace, and pretty much got him recognised in the UK.
Hey, nice work. Thats got to be one of the longest/most accurate biogs on here...
have you ever heard watertown? Written for Frank S in the late sixties by the guys who wrote for the four seasons
Heard its good...
I just picked up an original uk 45rpm of 'chicago' at a bootsale, in UNPLAYED condition, from '57...not rare, but in that state...
he deserves one.
He comes across as SUCH a namedropping knob, trying to overplay his role in every major musical momement of the 60's.
