Best double bill ever.
God I'm tired
Did your Nathan Fake album come through yet?
it arrived yesterday
I've not opened it yet, will be my soundtrack to my journey to the airport this morning : )
a bit special
What she said.
were volcano! selling crap? i wanted to pick up the 7" that has the otis redding track but they only seemed to be selling tape cds.
i love them on record.
with Tape live - they sound better on record.
Volcano! were excellent - although I was tired and my attention waned slightly in the middle but was back there for the last 2 songs and the encore!
i hadn't heard any davis / roux stuff before the show, and only a couple of volcano! tracks from their myspace page... so for those two bands it was a bit of a blank canvas. ive listen to a fair bit of tape stuff and i thought they were pretty good live, but it didnt capture their studio work yet - still really enjoyable though.
davix / roux were just fuckin odd. bird noises, trickling water, intertwining organ sounds with the odd bit of DEAFENING STATIC. fun to watch but just not my bag. almost more fun just to see the startled faces of some of the crowd who were sitting right by the speakers. i think one girl shat herself.
volcano! i just didnt get. given the hype on here i was expecting something pretty special - and they were that alright but just the kinda thing i dont find appealing. it seemed almost like freeform indie jazz or something, fuckin bizarre. really wish they had john thompson introducing them... "and now, all the way from canada, volcano! - brutal."
cant win em all i guess.
i couldn't hear you properly and suspected it was but was unsure. :)
you introduced yourself as robin, and it took me a few minutes to register which robin you were. and now i know. :)
and her name is spelt with an 'i'
i think we did meet!
they sound like lots of other bands i don't like, but the amalgam of them all leads to something i love.
the two guys with laptops sounded pleasant enough, but BY GOD GIVE US SOMETHING TO WATCH.
Tape were the most boring band i've ever seen by miles. They're like a more conservative Sigur Ros without the even slightly vaguely rousing bits.
they made pretty sounds.
volcano were great.
For the same reason. Admittedly not the best to watch, but far better than two blokes trying to make it seem like pressing a button on a laptop is an intense movement (in my opinion). volcano! just made so much more sense live. Slack-jawed throughout. I like the album, but that was something I really wasn't prepared for. I can understand why people wouldn't enjoy it but for me, it was "up there".
I'm amazed no one's mentions Colin freaking out the people behind him with his jazz-spasms.
i'm going to do a review of colin's performance. it will not be forgotten.
I did turn to Hannah at one point and say 'I feel like I'm losing years of my life'.
They were possibly the worst watering down of that kinda genre-styled-thing, ever.
There just wasn't any emotion, or anything interesting beyond 'this is kinda pretty'.
You don't get an opinion because your house was no fun and I had to entertain myself by watching your Pavement DVD and pining for fun and rose.
FEEL GUILTY, MCLAREN. (thanks again)
That's awesome :D
laptop boys - i quite liked, but i like that sort of electronica.
tape: boooooooooooooring but got better towards the end
volcano: very very very good. last three songs were sheer brilliance.
I freaked NO ONE out.
i'm totally reviewing you.
*gets thesaurus out*
you'd review me.
* They signed their contract with LEAF last night and I scored 2352 indie points by being the sole witness for the contract.
* I'm in their top 8 on myspace.
* I made friends with them so now I can never review them again :(
burn their guitars, then they'll hate you and you can review them all you want.
