I'm listening to Bitches Brew. Anyone a fan? Radiohead have mentioned it quite a few times.
a bit of Acker Bilk!
I remember reading somewhere that A Love Supreme was easier to get in to if you liked rock music but this is pretty cool.
check out 'A tribute to Jack Johson' by Miles Davis, which is pretty rocky for a jazz album, lots of Hendrix-type guitar on there. Amazing album.
and get 'A Tribute To Miles Davis' by Jack Johnson. It's just some mumbly stoner (sorry, "surfer") going on about how much he loves trumpetting in the beach.
have some nice cheap vinyl at the moment. I bought Coltrane - Giant Steps and him and Don Cherry, the Avant-Garde for a fiver each yesterday. Yum.
a love supreme by coltrane.
that album is genius.
also, the shape of jazz to come by ornette coleman is great.
'Blue Train' by Coltrane, and you can always find it for around £5 which is always a bonus.
to '75, bar On the Corner & Big Fun is essential jazz listening.
rather than for. Obviously.
i was listening to miles davis live at the fillmore earlier, recorded 1970...it's absolutely insane. i love it, it sounds AMAZING, so much texture. superb.
and for vocals cassandra wilson just takes my breath away every time. i actually love her.
i can take in one go. getting to the end of it now and i'm getting bored. Thanks for the suggestions though.
'in a soulful mood'
very much recommend Miles Davis' Agharta, Pangaea (both live) and Big Fun (studio) for anyone who likes Bitches Brew.
