5 pounds on the door, star and garter.
who fancies watching these 3 exciting bands while i stand wearily near the back, blowing my nose into an already overused tissue?
i was just about to say that "the bangor crew" would roadtrip to this, but we're all djing in bangor
it should be rather good. would have been nice to ^5 the bangor crew.
and i have to see TFT soon.
well, to me anyway
i think i am anyway. think you can bear meeting me twice in a week?
fog is playing at the star and garter on wednesday as well. i think i'm going to go to that too.
steve: yes, of course
jessica: do it
i've never seen that fucking tank before, and every time i've planned to go and see jeniferever i've never actually managed it. this includes two hours driving around leeds trying to find the venue they were playing at before giving up and going home.
seeing as how i'm actually in love with jeniferever.
and am tired/sick. This is not looking good.
i definitely can't go. been in bed w/ hoodie on all day. how was the boredoms?
I tried to find a thread to talk about how awesome it was but I can't find one. One and a half hours of three drummer mintness.
I'll still be going to Jesuchester on 6/6/6.
i should get a ticket for that.
really good. i missed most of making faces' set, but they seemed ok from what i saw of them.
kong were immense. i saw them at sounds from the other city and thought they were pretty good, but they were much much better in a 'proper' venue.
that fucking tank were alright. not as good as i were expecting though. it was missing something, and if you're just going to have a guitarist and a drummer, the drummer has to be REALLY good. that fucking tank's drummer didn't really do much.
jeniferever were a bit dull in parts, but they made up for it with some really beautiful and/or intense bits. they're probably the skinniest band i've ever seen. i felt like running home and forcing myself to vomit.
is anyone going to see FOG tonight? i'm really excited about this. it's at the star and garter, i think tickets are seven quid on the door.
really. They didn't seem to care that much and a lot of it was pretty boring, true there were moments of great intensity/beauty but compared to their stuff on record it was a bit souless.
Agree about TFT's drummer however I still thought they were pretty immense. Also the CD case for the Kong EP is the most stupid thing ever.
the Star and Garter though, such a great little venue, and they were selling Venetian Snares tickets for £6 :o. So gutted i'm not going to be here
Kong: only saw the end. Didn't really like them last time I saw them. Not my thing.
That Fucking Tank: it looked liked the guitarist was having fun. Agree with steve that the drummer wasn't up to much. Especially during the section where he just messed about whilst the guitarist changed his string. The guitar sound was amazing and immense but really he's not that stunning a player. I did enjoy it though.
Jeniferever: first half was boring. real 'ethereal by numbers' stuff. the vocals seemed superfluous (although that could be S&G's legendarily crap sound). The last three tracks lifted it up by several fathoms. One really good climactic one, followed by a downbeat one where the whale noises and minor chords actually coalesced into something more substantial and the finale was pretty good if a little long, and almost a touch forced in terms of 'now we must go mental and rock out because it is the end'.
and yes they are amazingly skinny. the singer's back goes from his shoulders to his ankles with no pause for an arse. He needs jeans that fit, when he turns his back from the crowd to rock out you don't really want to see his skinny little bumcrack through his boxers. spoils it a bit.
I'd go and see them both again. And I reckon I could like Jeniferever more on cd.
but i still feel like the set from a scat movie so i made the right choice.
did tank set up in the middle of the floor as usual?
they were onstage. don't think the S&G would stand for such behaviour.
