Volcano! (Rantcentric)

stuurt [Edit] [Delete] 13 replies 01:21, 29 May '06

So, i've just got back from the Volcano! gig in Birmingham, and goddamn if i'm not feeling like my city's a little crappy.

Not only was there probably three quarters of the room empty, but the band had their set cut short without so much as a warning that they were running out of time. This after way too much pissing about between support bands.

I'm now listening to the album and getting more annoyed, frankly.

absolutely no fucker there in manchester on tuesday either. i think everyone was watching the longcut/the research/some other gig that escapes me at the moment. literally me/utm/kid_a at the front and no-one else.

    • first impressions (live): yes

      second impressions (recorded): yes

And i get the impression they're probably going to sound even better in a few listens' time. There's a lot of jazzing off and random atmosphere sounds to get accustomed to.

    • well

they were very, very good live. intense and energetic despite the poor attendance. there are great bits on the album too, maybe a little too wanky & directionless sometimes. worth checking out, anyway.

      search "volcanoisaband"

  • i didn't enjoy them live

the guy with all the bleepy-bloopy responsibilities was good, as was the drummer, but then the guy started singing and he's got a bit of a jeff buckley complex.
good album, not so good live. blah.

  • There was easily a 100

for Norwich. But I wasn't too impressed with them, maybe they were having an off night.

  • yeah

at the edinburgh gig it was mainly just mates of the support bands who were there.

    (me included)
