Hawkwind

MEGAtron [Edit] [Delete] 8 replies 03:14, 20 May '06

Anyone know anything about them? From the music I have been listenig to recently, I suspect Hawkwind is a serious hole in my music collection. I guess that the post Lemmy stuff isn't great but I wanna go out tomorrow and buy an awesome noise album by them, which one?

  • The best thing about Hawkwind

is that their name sounds like a condition. As in, "can't come to work today, I've got terrible..."

Are there any other bands whose names sound like medical conditions?

I suppose Colon Open Bracket would be one.

    • .

funny you should say that, cos they are named after one of the members endearing habits of hacking up flem and farting.

      Hawk-Wind

      mmm, tourbus.

      • I saw them

at Glastonbury 89 and an offshoot band at Stonehenge 88. That made me feel old till I realised that between last week and next week I'll have been out at gigs ten nights out of fourteen. The four nights I'm not out I wear a cardigan and bang my walking stick off the window at unruly children.

  • space ritual is the best place to start

    get it, it's amazing

then get - in search of space, domremi fasol latido, hall of the mountain grill and warrior on the edge of time

for the modern stuff... alien4 and take me to your leader.
and try to get your hands on the recent spirit of the age single, which features an utterly incredible verion of assassins of allah and guest vocals from matthew wright from channel 5s the wright stuff.

also, try and go see them live, i've seen them 8 or 9 times and everyone single show has been unique and brilliant.

i love hawkwind, one of my dads favourite bands so i've been raised on this sort of stuff.

  • they were never, ever better than the first two tracks of Quark, Strangeness & Charm

I mean...just listen to them. Damnation Alley especially. Just supreme music

(You can stop there, the rest's less good)
