Anyone got it?What do you make of it? Nine and Thirteen are immense.
There's a review of it here:
I love it, can't stop listening to it. There's barely a weak patch on it. Thirteen blows my mind every time.
the third thread I've seen on this album and it's STILL my album of year.
IT BLEW OUT MY FUCKING BRAIN!
soon. bought Jeniferever instead the other day, which is lush...i'll get around to it soon though.
is verry good indeed.havent got round to listening to frs album ye though. will make sure to now.
you're such a shameless self promoter...
'cept it's called 12 apparently. Can ya's imagine if they have a twenty year career. "And now, track 1428 by iForwardRussia!" A rather cheesy and impractical gimmick.
But they have an alright sound, eh? Sort of a Bloc Party meets 1982. Steve Lemaque (sp?) loves 'em I guess. Said he's seen 'em 16 times in the past year. Dunno if they're all that based on 12, but I'm sufficiently curious so that if their album finds it's way into my record shop's used bin...I'd buy it.
Yeah, I'm wondering how far they can take the numbering tracks instead of giving them names gimmick. It'd be great if they could keep it going for, say, 5 albums.
But most of it isn't as good as the demos promised.
Nine seems really lifeless.
that four and one is not on the album. these songs represent the origins of forward russia and should be on the debut album
have to represent a bands origins. surely they are constantly evolving and developing and thats what the album should be about.
they're dropping the numbers thing after the first album. Love the debut, never really gave the demo's a chance. they just vary in quality too much to enjoy in a cohesive playlist for me.
The vocals take some getting used to, but it's like Ian Curtis, it begins as an annoyance and ends up the reason you listen at all.
Is it not the case that they simply have a little more cash to splash on the recording and production?! I think the recordings on the LP are more polished but in many respects I still prefer the demos as they have more character to them.
using the numbers. I would love it if they came up with 1568 songs :D
going down very well. muchos impressed...
loads, it's a great album, I hadn't really checked out much of their stuff other than seeing them live before I got it, so I don't know if their demos are better than the album. I really doubt it though, as they've probably become better at playing the songs, and the production's gonna be improved.
anyway, Bloc Party meets Million Dead meets Biffy Clyro meets 65DoS, that's what I told someone they sounded like today. 19 , 17 and 15 are the standouts to my uneducated ears, 13 great, but sounds so much like Biffy I'm surprised there wasn't some kind of legal fracas...
but the russians are different enough not to provoke hate in me. Strong set of songs. It really pisses me off how on every rock line-up now there's a token 'vertigo of bliss' tribute band who manage to rape Biff's sound poorly.
