just got a text .. i'm going to see them NOW
any other DiSers goin ?
one on Sunday was amazing.
Also attended by wishpig and pv:
gameboy attack ?
and was he (as i was told by someone) dj scotch egg ?
and my hazy recollection of tonight it would appear that i did indeed get to witness scotch egg *and* lightning bolt at the same gig
repost my photos
rock n' roll massacre and keiths tele (i think) are there
Hypermagic Mountain may be the best one to start with though.
Hypermagic Mountain or Wonderful Rainbow
or buy both and then some Hella and Mindflayer.
Its important to have listened to all 3 albums so then you'll know all the words.
I'd start with Hypermagic Mountain - I hear this was pretty much recorded live so gives a good approximation of their sound in a gig.
i'm honestly very scared about how deaf i am.
i fear for my jacket as i actually fell over... i spent most of the show leaning on the drum kit. i couldn't hear a word of what Brian Chippendale was saying to me when he took my phone to check the time.
the sweat has soaked through 2 layers.
I'm still finding it really difficult to hear
and my t shirt was still SOAKED the next morning
i just have a riff repeating in my head as fuzz... even the 2 aids wolf shows in a day didn't do this much damage.
there's a slight cut on my hand from the hi-hat and everything.
Hehe i didn't even have a riff in my head. I just had a high pitched humming noise and it felt like my ears were full of cotton wool
utm_usic said it felt like there was a "ufo in his brain".
My hearing is going abck to normal, but i still have to ask everyone to repeat everything, which is slightly worrying considering I have a french oral exam tomorrow morning. I can't help but draw parallels with those people who say their hearing was fucked JUST by seeing MBV
but i have the intro to "Dead Cowboy" just repeating in my head.
it's quite catchy.
the first support (who were seemingly nameless) and Volcano! were so loud, that by Lightning Bolt i couldn't really hear properly, let alone recognise songs.
so i guess i'll be wearing earplugs to this one. if it got any worse i think i would cry.
and stuff at MBV gigs cos of the frequencies and pedals and...stuff?
and not wear earplugs to leeds
earplugs take out all the top-end (yea i know thats the harmful stuff)
but they totally destroy what gigs are about.
ah well. so excited!
and now my hearing is permanently damaged, i can never be in silence and i flinch when people laugh loudly.
i'm not saying you should wear earplugs, but there's no need to make other people feel shitty about it.
i replied to the wrong one.
how did i make anyone feel shitty about wanting to wear earplugs?
in the long run, its blantantly and obviously the intelligent thing to do.
but it ruins gigs for me
i guess i misinterpreted:
'they totally destroy what gigs are about'
as a somewhat stronger and less personal statement than:
'it ruins gigs for me'
sorry if it sounded like i was having a go, but there seems to generally be quite a negative attitude towards this issue, and i find it quite offensive cuz my ears are fucked already and i don't really want to make it worse.
if you can get away with not wearing them, then good for you, i envy you.
but so far in my life, my ears do fine after gigs, the worst probably being the locust, but even then i was fine after an hour or so
i've seen a lot of gigs since then, and i guess i'm just one of the unlucky ones.
i never wore earplugs either, then one week about a year ago i went to a few gigs on the trot and my ears never went back to normal.
a bit concerned about tinnitus recently. When I was younger I couldn't give a fuck but I did 3 nights of the Mogwai ICA residency in January and didn't recover from the screaming ears for about a week afterwards - Part Chimp, Lords, Lightning Bolt recenlty have left me in the same way, not quite as bad. I am seriously considering earplugs for the LB Luminaire one.
Where can I get them? Boots?
part chimp are fucking loud!
are incredible live though and part of the charm is the crunking hugely loud guitar - do you not miss that with ear plugs? Is it very much different?
it's pretty different. it kind've sucks i suppose. but it's also rubbish when i get inner ear pain when somebody drops a fork or when i'm trying to sleep but all i can hear is eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee.
i like a part chimp show anyway. you can hear it through your bones.
i say it's pretty different. it's not a world of different. try it, if you hate it, throw them away - you'll only have lost the cost of a pair of earplugs :)
that if you wear them for an hour or so beforehand you won't really notice the difference. But I have been told a lot of things.
purely because i have THE FEAR, so i say BUY EARPLUGS NOW.
but i dont want all the cool kids to laugh at me.
i also dont want to lose my hearing (any more)
AND BIG BUSINESS (which was probably the bestest thing ever)!!! i forgot to take my plugs and now i cant hear a thing :(
AWESOME. my hearing is gone. fishplumbs was a mere shell of a man though and couldnt stand the ROCK. the other bands were a bit sucky though, i wish gay against you played.
fishplums was absolutely destroyed yesterday morning from drinking several pints of dirt cheap wine and passing out ON HIS FACE at 7am.
actually, i'm impressed he even made it to the gig..
this is even worse than the that fucking tank/aids wolf/whitehouse/gindrinker two-day marathon in february.
my mum keeps commenting on how bad i look.
i feel dead.
i got home at about half one, bought pizza (just to, y'know, make a change) and went to bed. best decision i've made in a while :D
i got home at one after dj scotch egg and lightning bolt split my ears.
all i can hear is "EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE"
eeeeherrreeeheerrrr, like two notes. i dont want to go to another gig ever again. unless its the voices fronted by robson and jerome. obvs.
after LB in cardiff. but only just.
i was stood behind brian gibson though so the NOISENOISENOISE attack wasn't quite as fierce as it would have been in front.
i saw fishplums trying to keep balance while taking photos. he did look pretty fucked.
but yeah, it probably wasn't the greatest decision in the world to see lightning bolt after four days of aural torture.
how bored does brian gibson always look? i always think he's a few seconds away from rocking out but then no! he still looks intensely at anyone who goes near his pedals.
yours was more a look which said "i am running at 1% of capacity and i need to go to bed, now".
i was watching brian c's expressions more - he kept looking across at brian g and grinning as if it was the best job in the world.
was suprisingly HOT. i went up and told him he was amazing afterwards. way to go.
was she not too busy being SQUASHED to DEATH?
fell asleep during the heavy bit in Memorial by Explosions in the Sky
and my god it was loud, and he was closer to the speakers than me, i didnt understand how
im being good were really really bad, like all of those awful brighton bands. truckers of husk were alright i guess, they werent totally riveting to watch but didnt play for too long so it was alright.
well, we shouted at each other in the car. lightning bolt seem to have only one thing going for them. it's that moment where the drummer stops hitting his ride singles and the bassist throws a juggernaut-sized bassline at your face.
while it's an impressive 'thing', it gets boring when they play for ages.
i dont understand any of those technical terms. to be honest during lb i didnt get remotley bored, which usually does happen as i have a pretty short attention span music wise. maybe im just easily impressed by juggernaut-sized basslines.
spot Colly rocking out!
is amazing :D
i'm there too y'know. sniff.
You can see the top of my head and my left shoulder, blue T-shirt at the bottom of the photo, in the middle.
I took about 80 photos, most of them are crap though.
JUST out of shot on the right. cursing the over officious security guard standing in my way.
