Wow! The first track on Frances the mute must be one of the best openers on an album...ever!
and The Widow isn't a bad way of following it up.
which makes it even better.
frances the mute while asleep is one of lifes great experiences.
listening to deloused any way at all is another.
does that mean Frances the Mute is rubbish?
it's excellent. but deloused is better.
listening to it asleep is just scary, you keep getting woken by vague assaults of strange noodling.
i seem to remember the bird samples being particularly unsettling...
I've done that with Godpeed. Rather scary being woken up by some person talking to me through earphones!
listening to Trout Mask Replica in headphones once, I was quite confused when it woke me up.
but it's taken ages for me to start finding the hooks and stuff.
i'm going to put it on now i think...
on the improvisation, some of the tracks go nowhere. Maybe thats the idea....
cos it all goes somewhere. Apart from the special edition international bonus track (tm)
it's one those things where the album is actually worse for the addition of an extra track.
I tend not to listen to the bonus track. It's the same with the new version of Grace by Jeff Buckley
Forget Her is a brilliant song!
I see where you're coming from though, it doesn't quite work as a closer after Dream Brother.
The Volta are awesome. End Of.
was one of the best things i'd heard in my life when it came out.
i still adore it.
Frances The Mute would be 10x better if they took out the 5 minutes of shit noise between each track.
live though, they really are something else. they played for 2 hours straight and only took 1 break. the drummer is a genius, he basically improvised for the whole 2 hours..
I Loved de loused, then i couldent wait for FTM. When i heard it, i was blown away again, but after a couple of listens i just couldent be arsed with their pretentious wank.
But luckily, i listened to FTM last night for the first time in ages, and it sounded great. Im well back into them now.
But although both bands have Cedric and Omar, both bands have become completely different musically.
If you listen to the first Mars Volta EP it does show a bit of a progression though from ATDI to the Mars Volta though.
Simple Answer? I prefer ATDI
