  • oh jesus!

Easily one of my favourite albums of all time.

I am in fact penning something about the band at the moment. Well, not RIGHT now, but I've been flirting with something for a while.

tera:tora are currently defunct after their bassist left, but Scarecrows are getting better and better and are genuinely interesting in a Jaga Jazzist/softer Battles type way.

    Ace.

    • you speak the truth!

the scarecrows song on their myspace is extremely jaga jazzist. that's not a bad thing ;)

    • I didn't know that about tera:tora. Boo.

I have love for this album too. Much of it.

got themselves a violinist and have become really special.

so you should definitely see them.

        • As far as I'm concerned...

the jury is still out on Scarecrows, although I need to catch them live.

Tera Tora are great though on record and live.

And yes, The Murder... were a fantastic band. I love those guys.

        aren't defunct

I just got this album, and was considering making a thread. It's just SOOO amazing isnt it, as threadstarter said just encapsulates everything good about music. It's just so beautiful, epic, and danceable and they're from Worchester of all place. Brilliant voice, guitar tone as well.

        Love it

        • I fucking loved this band!

I picked up a demo of "slap the cubo" from this very website and ended up loving it (after a few confused spins). Being a bit of a nut for wanting original stuff and all that, I searched high and low for the album and eventually found it for a fiver second-hand. Best bargain I've ever seen.
It is so unique- weird, heavy, trippy, and heck, pretty cool, geeky- but what makes it stand out is this really interesting atmosphere that makes you come back for more- I never found i alienating.
Whatever, it's a half hour of absolute brilliance, and one of the very few albums I've genuinly fallen in love with.

        • i said CURRENTLY defunct

as they're working on a new bassist.

          plah.

      • i want this album

but amazon list it as deleted and i seem to remember the last time there was a 2nd hand copy available it was something silly like £46.00. boo.

        • this album

is in my top 5 favourite albums ever.

it's everything i've ever loved about music.

insane, fast, brutal, quiet, ambient, wierd, proggy, complex, shouty, screamy, whispery, talented

it just covers everything i like.

amazing. as soon as i heard slap the cubo, i went out and bought the album and the first 7" (half pink, half clear), and then a month or two after i got into them, the new ep came out and i bought that on cd and 7". that was much more different, and you can definately hear where scarecrows have picked up from.

tera:tora were FANTASTIC live, totally dancey and catchy. havent caught scarecrows live yet, but i love the track they've released, and i'll be buying a 7" and a t-shirt as soon as i come into some cash.

good thread, i really really cant explain how much i adore this band.

              • It all

seemed so sudden when they broke up I was expecting atleast another album out of them. I remember seeing them not long before they broke up and Im sure they played some songs they never recorded, in the vein of the 7inch secret bark language. Well yeah anyway they were a revelation, as soon as I heard Slap the cubo I had to buy everything they had. Both Scarecrows and Tera Tora are good but they were amazing!

                fur-trousers @tobykiller | 10 May '06, 20:06 | X
                • well if you think about it

Kamikazee, Tera:Tora and Scarecrows are all good in their own right

but the Murder of Rosa Luxemburg were literally the sounds of those 3 bands mixed together. wierd how when you seperate the band memebers you seperate the sound

                  stwerewolf @fur-trousers | 10 May '06, 23:46 | X
      • yeah, i would go along if i were you :)

i thought the last ep was also really stunning. prob my fav 7" in my collection.

i asked the scarecrows guitar dude about the unreleased songs once, and he said they'd planned to get together and record them, even after they'd split, but that after they formed new bands it started looking less and less likely that it'll ever happen. i miss them. :(

new tMoRL material would be the best news of my life

          • yup

Sean's new band is called Lovvers. They're playing Dot to Dot Festival and have a few other gigs lined-up I believe.

saw a flyer last year for a band called hades and under the band name it said 'ex murder of'. have one of the new bands changed their name or am i really confused?

              MatthewCargill @dave_rio | 16 May '06, 19:22 | X
              • WOW!

Look at this for a gig. Two Ex-Murder of... bands on one night.

Wed 4th October, Rose of England, Nottingham (next to House of Fraser on Mansfield Rd)

Highsoc & Good Name for a Racehorse Present...

                CATS AND CATS AND CATS
                Discofied post-rock/hardcore. Think YMSS/Tired Irie/Mogwai.
                www.myspace.com/catsandcatsandcats

                LOVVERS
Noisy, snotty, doomy hardcore. Like Unwound coming unwound!
                www.myspace.com/letscommunicate

                SCARECROWS
More Ex-Murder of! Intricate yet great fun. Like a more homely, folky Jaga Jazzist.
                www.myspace.com/scarecrows

                THE EXPLOITS OF ELAINE
First gig with new material/new direction. A magical musical tour with bowed zithers, hammered woks and vocal harmonies to die for. Think The One Ensemble or Popul Vuh. Perhaps.
www.myspace.com/theexploitsofelaine (track up not representative of new sound!)

                £4ish (£3 for Highsoc members)
