Where to start?
as that is what i have, and i like most of it a lot.
tracks: new england, milkman of human kindness, love gets dangerous, strange things happen, the saturday boy.
His solo stuff (as in just him with little accompaniment) is by far his best because he didn't have to work it around anyone else's input. And he has, as I think he's long come to terms with, always been a more consistent writer about relationships than about politics, although often by treating them as much the same. I saw him live on Thursday on the last English night of the anti-BNP supporting tour and he was in superbly feisty form, doing pretty much all of Life's A Riot...
ever seen a distinct similarity between bragg's "the saturday boy" and minutemen's "history lesson pt 2"?
cos i have.
they're not that far apart, although I'd be surprised if it was more than coincidence.
hmmmm. Its only available on amazon through the marketplace thing which means my order won't qualify for free delivery. Any alternatives?
I don't usually like compilations but this one is wonderful
then go back and start at the beginning
Talking With The Taxman About Poetry. One of the ones that got recently rereleased (the blue one), and it's got all my favourites on it. Alternatively, get Victim Of Geography, which has Taxman (minus one track) and the following album, Workers Playtime, which has my other favourites on it (The Short Answer and Waiting For The Great Leap Forwards especially).
he's supporting Hard Fi at Brixton...
Because, y'know bviously Hard Fi are the greatest modern social commentators of the socialist working class.
Jesus Christ, why?" Billy why!?
do a cover of Levi Stubbs' Tears?
and he gets to play to 5000 people?
Taking With the Taxman is his best album but you can't really go wrong with Billy. The Mermaid Avenue albums he did with Wilco where they did their own musical arrangements to Woody guthrie's lyrics are superb too.
I eventually decided on 'Brewing Up With Billy Bragg' with a view to getting 'Talking With The Taxman' and 'Life's A Riot' later.
I can't remember why.
