It was bizarre. I was in the BBC bar and someoene gave me a free pass.
It wasn't this weeks show - it was a forthcoming one with Richard Ashcroft, We Are Scientists and some guy from Creedence Clearwater Revival who's claim to fame is that he wrote "Rockin' All over The World".
It was midly diverting for 5 minutes - they actually record it pretty much live which is cool - but I quickly got bored (tho, to be honest, Richard Ashcroft looked way boreder than I did - especially during the interviews).
All this is beside the point. My problem is I don't like Jools Holland. It's not a bad idea for a show but I find the guy extremely annoying.
I was looking forward to The Spinto's, and they were well below par :(
Jenny Lewis didn't even look that nice either...
poor poor poor :(
I wasn't that impressed with the Spinto Band having never heard them before. Pearl Jam are as dad rock as always.
At least John Fogerty from CCR is on next week!
Remember when Joanna Newsom was on Jools. That was MINT.
haven't heard the spinto band, or seen a good performance on jools holland.
i made my friends watch, thinking they'd like her. "she sounds like a disabled child", they said. twats.
Everyone just always looks bored out of their minds on it nowadays. Ms Lewis had a nice dress on at least. Eddie's still quite hot.
everyone else was okay
still much much better than some/most of last series
And I'm not even a fan!
pearl jam = ok, sprinto band = good, then went to bed. i like jools holland, he is sortof quasi-eccentric which is slightly weird, but i like him.
because he's small greasy and has no neck
"hes a weird little man" she says
'cos he's got an annoying voice, is a grown man who uses the phrase "boogie-woogie" and plays dull self-indulgent music.
....sang "Cool for cats" *at* him with Gorkys Zygotic Mynci in a hotel bar. Rock n' roll.
gets 1 song and Collen Boring Raye gets 3?
Spinto band seemed pretty nervous
Loved it when John Spencer jumped up on his piano as he attempted to 'boogie woogie' along to Blues Explosion. His freaked reaction was ace.
acts a bit like a paedo, but is a great pianist.
Someone just slagged John Fogerty.
Spinto Band were pretty good last night. I like the fact that you can totally imagine members of Pearl Jam looking at each other bemused watching the kazoo harmony
Jools Holland Story:
I was once in a posh restaurant in London town for my brothers 21st. There was some gou playing lounge piano as we walked in and had 'drinks at the bar'. Five minutes later, Jools Holland walks in
The pianist started sweating beyond comprehension and started fucking up. He had to take a break to regain his composure
It was... odd
I'm not sure how that happened
remember when the Darkness were still the talk of town and every MOR (and even some "ALTERNATIVE" peeps) were lapping up their stuff like crazy.
"it's british" etc.
but, when they went on JH and he did a solo ontop of the piano which, usually, would be the biggest insult to Jools, yet it was lapped up and ol' Jooly was even smiling and encouraging him along.
yeah, well i doubt they'd even get a reinvite now.
thats how fickle it is. (but a good point to signal the popularity curve of the Darkness.)
might have been more of a statement had Jon Spencer not done exactly the same a couple of weeks before.
As Dirtbomb said up there. Carry on.
