I forgot how amazing it is.
It is, isn't it?
Favourite Beck albums...? I think Sea Change is mine.
Cos you smell
because it's dance-perfect.
I concur - Midnite Vultures for me too, not a dull moment on it unlike his other records.
Sea Change by at least six trillion billion mill ion lightyears.
The Golden Age is one of my favourite songs ever, it makes me sit completely still and just watch. stuff.
him being totally different from odelay. And he IS completely another musician from midnite vultures. If you want an opinion, then its a hum-dinger of a dilly of a pickle.
Odelay i rekon. 'cos i got memories with that one. Sea change is a beaute though... better that his other acoustic one... which was??
or One foot in the Grave. I like all his records but Midnite Vultures pips all other chancers.
apart from lost cause.
best = mellow gold or one foot in the grave.
Wasn't sea change inspired by beck's experience of being jilted by his fiancee?
is one of his best, if not THE best, albums.
I was playing a very old John Peel tape recently. He was playing Loser and said at the end "I don't think that's the last we're going to be hearing from this lad" or something very similar. How right he was.
I might try to buy a ticket in Amsterdam next week for his upcoming Amsterdam Paradiso show.
is my favourite Beck album
2. Mellow Gold
4. Sea Change
5. Midnite Vultures
And that's the double truth, Ruth.
If anyone remembers me completely going off on one and writing about 5000 words in a similar thread, then it's ok, I'm not gonna do it again. Basically though, everyone who likes alternative music should have every Beck album. Right from the early demos and oddities kicking around the internet (Golden Feelings, Fresh Meat and Old Slabs, A Western Harvest Field By Moonlight, Steve Threw Up etc.) to the two commercially released independent records (One Foot In The Grave, Stereopathetic Soulmanure) and then all the major label / big releases (Mellow Gold, Odelay, Mutations, Midnite Vultures, Seachange, Guero) a lot of his B-sides and non-album tracks are brilliant too (Totally Confused, Deadweight, Feather In Your Cap, MTV Makes Me Wanna Smoke Crack etc.).
My favourite three are One Foot In The Grave (lo-fi folk), Mutations (hi-fi folk) and Odelay (a glorious mish-mash). But I listen to all of them every now and then!
for me. except paper tiger, which i skip without fail as i dislike it for some unexplainable reason
sea change and then mutations...
I remember it well.
I nearly bought some Beck the other day because of that, but opted for Forever Changes instead. I think I made the right choice.
Beck with RADIOHEAD and willy mason in edinburgh.
Best line up since, leik, ever ?
Shame about the venue.
Odelay is for Saturday night's with the cargo before going out!
