Just got back from Royal Albert Hall gig...Very special. Such a positive bunch, and put on an excellent show.
i'm as jealous as twat
It was a good set, but can't ever see them harking back to the really early stuff. Tonight featured all of Wayne's usual bits and pieces (walking across the crowd in the huge bubble, big white balloons across the venue all night, talking nun glove-puppet, a bunch of Santa Clauses and aliens on stage all set etc) - Nothing out of the ordinary for them, but totally unique compared to 90% of other bands. There was even a proposal on stage from 2 fans. Strong set, with not too many from the latest LP (3? 4?), mingled with the classics and a rousing rendition of Yoshimi/She Don't Use Jelly/Do you realise? etc.
He's a great guy, even when someone popped one of the big balloons, Wayne hit back with, 'Hey, don't feel sympathy for a piece of plastic...We've got plenty more' Pretty amusing at the time.. Love 'em.
at first we felt a bit left out stuck right at the top at the back, but after a couple of songs we really got drawn in. The three songs Dirtbomb menton were ace, but The Yeah Yeah Yeah Song also deserves a mention, it was incredible.
Brilliant fun, Wayne's such an ace showman. My only little complaint it that they didn't do anything new, stageshow-wise - the fake blood is a little less shocking when you've seen it so many times before. Still a rousing, heartwarming gig though.
They are probably the best live band in the world
Quite a lot of people like them actually. Certainley more than like the Research...
still inflate a balloon using a smoke machine until it bursts? Always an under-rated bit, that, usually at the end of In The Morning Of The Magicians on the last UK tour.
Can't remember which song it was during this time.
Fantastic show - I travelled from Bristol and have never been so ill at a gig in my life. If I hadn't had a seat (and I normally hate sitting down) there's no way I could have gone.
i wish i was there
i was there. Big fun kid's birthday party of a gig. and the RAH is AMAZING.
I'd never thought of it being called the RAH. RAH!!!!
are the definative article.
no band alive, could give such a unique performance.
the stage show, or rather the crowd show is second to none.
I find that sometimes at gigs you're left not really knowing what to do, i can't dance and i don't fancy singing along, so balloons (and fucking lots of them) are a good solution!
But bring back hand held strobes and rabbit costumes.
set wise i was happy, compared to the american tour there were more classics, eg she dont use jelly etc.
Would have liked to have heard flight test, lightening strikes the postman...maybe frogs, but cant complain. I was happy they still did in the morning of the magicians, perhaps my favourite song ever.
I stand by the fact that Do You Realise would be an amazing christmas number one, someday.
