I am listening to the eponymous album again and there's just not a bad moment in the fucker ANYWHERE.
Christ it's good.
i remember reading that coxon was so nervous about doing the vocals he did them in the dark while sat under a table. it's probably been embellished over the years, but it's a nice little story anyway :)
or are the only good ones?
Whichever it is you're just a WRONG person!
is the most over-played song in the history of Planet Earth.
swapping For Tomorrow for the extended 'Visit to Primrose Hill' version, natch! :-D
i'm pretty sure the Primrose Hill version is on The Best Of..
truegeekstory: when MP3ifying Modern Life.. I switched between the American and UK version as the intermission / commercial break tracks have their own track designations on the US pressing and it was easier than timing them in.
with the brass section. I think it's the version they used to play live.
I used the word 'section' too many times then. Apologies.
and it is on the Best Of, though depressingly the long version of There's No Other Way wasn't, but I have that. The extra stuff is before the stuff about "let's take a drive to Primrose Hill".
The Us and UK versions of Modern Life are actually different in a couple more ways:
Chemical World is the shorter, US Mix that has more vocals in the instrumental. I prefer the UK but I do like the US. But yes, I like the separate tracking of Intermission and Advert so I kind of hacked it around.
The US version includes PopScene - WOOHOO!
Oh and it has a black and white, shorter booklet with the painting of Blur reversed for some reason.
I really like the live version of There's No Other Way, but I can't find it on CD. The only version I have is on a tape I recorded off the radio in 1996.
"please don't kill us all" version? if you just mean a less specific live version, i'm pretty sure it's on the Live At The Budoken album.
... i love blur.
but I can't see it on the tracklisting anywhere on the internet. I just want any version where they play it faster, to me it sounds much better than the 'baggy' original version.
there's one on the Showtime video. damon dives into the crowd and graham takes over singing, and sings "please don't kill us all" to the song's tune and then something about their singer being a prat :D
I'm going to listen to Blur on the way home from work tonight. Every now and then I need reminding of how much I love them.
if you want - i'll have a look to see if i have any decent live stuff and bring it along tonight if you want a loan of them?
but it's usually about £15, or it used to be back in '97ish when I picked it up in HMV. You might be able to get it cheap from a US website.
Of course, if you've got the Blur Videos DVD from the Best of then you have PopScene on there and the sound's encoded as CD stereo in any case so you can just record it straight from there, if you wish?
by an American friend, along with the US version of Generation Terrorists (which is a lot different and a lot better than the UK one) :D
didn't realise chemical world was a different mix. not sure which one i used as well...
the US version also has two bonus tracks on tracks 68 and 69 on the CD. i can't remember the names right now though because i didn't include them.
When the Cows Come Home
When the Cows Come Home is a good b-side and Peach is sort of droney and less accessible.
I meant that not Advert when I said that they were separate tracks. Sorry.
an amazing, amazing LP. I love it.
but i think 13 is better.
but it's still a great record. there were some good remixes of tracks from it as well, i remember the one Thurston Moore did was pretty cool :D
that could never understand Blur ?
Though I think they are a weirdly 'British' thing so I'm never so surprised when non-Brits don't really get the brilliance I hear in them.
or they aren't that brilliant !
Still I know a lot of french people who really like them.
at least 4 or 5 tracks are kind of bobbins.
it's probably my favourite Blur album overall though.
theme from retro
i'm just a killer for your love
look inside america
... are all toss.
what's LOLworthy is that i'd put on this album minutes before i read this thread, and i haven't listened to it in ages.
Blimey. I thought you'd at least put M.O.R. and Chinese Bombs in there. Those four are utter genius. I love 'em!
It's an excellent album.
