any1 know where i can get it? the new leaked song off their new album. please say u know.
it's really very boring though.
seriously though, it's piss, piss, PISSpoor.
I googled the shit out of it and found this...
"Just to let you know, folks-
this was an unauthorized leak of an unfinished monitor mix of one of a dozen tracks me and Paul “Phones Epworth have produced for the new Rapture album. This is NOT a Ewan Pearson remix of a Dangermouse track.
As pissed off as we are about our work being leaked onto the internet - as we’re still in the studio finishing it - we are glad you like it.
That’s all for now.
ewan (and paul) "
So it's not like it's a finished track and you never know it could turn out to be the weakest track on the album. I do quite like it, I don't love it, it's certainly a vast improvement on some of the stuff on Echoes (which fell flat in too many places) I'm sure it'll grow on me, but yeah there we go.
"hey guys, what shall we do for our second album?"
"i got an idea! let's twat a cowbell for four minutes and put some jangly guitars over the top!"
"YES! YES! YES!"
i really like the Rapture, but that made me LMAO!!! :-D
are really shit.
liked them until I saw LCD soundsystem live,
or something, i really wanna hear it and cant get it anywhere on the net. pleeeaaaasssseeeee
I actually quite liked it.
The guitars get a bit repetitive though.
And the vocals aren't brilliant.
but erm, yeah.
it's pretty clear from the mix it's unfinished, but yeah, s'good. I get the feeling it might annoy me if i hear it a lot though.
seriously, it's GOOD.
or maybe I'm just a sucker for anything with excessive amounts of cowbell.
it's like self-parody.
i think they realised that without the DFA cowbell is all they have left.
apparently the lyrics are a reference to Gnarls Barkley related Altanta hiphop 'stars' the Goodie Mob, which is a nice gesture.
but still, all this cowbell disco is so tired now, this sounds like Radio 4.
how they could best sum up the rapture to someone who hasn't heard them before. and this is what they came up with - which is like the culmination of everything that was bad about them.
they're best when they're making moody, jerky punk-funk (see: heaven, echoes, olio). this is just so unbelievably average.
but I know what you mean, it is really typical rapture.
hopefully there'll be some more intersting stuff on the album than this though.
I still reckon it's a decent track.
"Yeah"/"Losing My Edge" & "House of Jealous Lovers" can't really be topped in terms of this kind of stuff really, and you can see the DFA moving well away from this now with their current stuff - they're going for an update of Detroit techno now it seems with all the Carl Craig remix hype and working with Baby Ford and the Shit Robot releases.
this was getting tired in 2003, so now it just comes across as a lack of ideas.
it was all great fun when no one remembered "Contort Yourself", but the people who did have all moved on.
they've got a lot of non-punk-funk/dancey stuff. but they still ARE putting out that type of thing with the juan maclean last year and the new hot chip one.
can't really argue that punk funk isn't dying a death though (or is dead already). the best of it's been done already.
eh, I don't really know what my point was there.
I still enjoy punk-funk.
but i'd rather listen to the great old records than have it all spoilt by shitty new ones. it just means DJs have more shit to play so there's less chance of hearing the Bush Tetras get played out :D
the DFA's more punk-funk type stuff now is still much more electronic than it was 3 years ago - Hot Chip are more Prince than Gang of Four.
you guys should check out the 'click here' thread I stuck up in the wee hours - there's still some good punk-funk around
as for this track, it's clearly nowhere near a finished mix and it's unlikely to be a single as the lyric contains the c word
I stuck it in wavelab and applied some linMB and waves ultramaximizer and it sounded pretty phat - not such a great song though, reminded me of Dolphin by Shed Seven :(
