The first sound we hear from Morrissey on that album is that of him falling down a well. This well is now an object of veneration for many fans of "The Smiths", the popular beat combo for whom Morrissey took care of the vocal duties. This isn't to malign the talents of Andrew Marr, P.J. O' Rourke and James Joyce, whose musical contributions are not to be misunderestimated.
