why do I hate them so very much?
Musically, U2 are no better and no worse than the majority of four-white-men-with-guitars bands. They present an easy target: They are hugely succesful, they are old, they are conceited.
I haven't bought a U2 record since 1980 (11 O'Clock Tick Tock) and have no interest in their current music; however, I'd sooner hear 'Vertigo' if I'm forced to rather than the pimps' employees like Girls Aloud and Westlife.
Essentially, U2 are ordinary. They have never written a classic song unlike, say, Led Zeppelin or Deep Purple, and their success rests on the somnabulistic attitude to music of the USA, but the best approach to U2's music is to ignore, whereas with Cowell and his cronies extreme violence is necessary.
It's just a song with a rememberable melody.
It is not an arguable point because I am right.
I like U2.
Most crap rock bands have a good song somewhere: Motorhead have 'Ace Of Spades', Led Zepplein have 'Black Dog' and 'Kashmir', Fleetwood Mac have 'Oh Well', but U2 just have banality.
they need to die, and soon.
In this instance I agree with Traynor in that they are 'ordinary' the problem is they and their misguided fans seem to think they're some kind of superband which only feeds the arrogance and makes us hate them all the more.
sunday bloody sunday
where the streets have no name
staring at the sun
bullet the blue sky
I laughed so much that I frightened the fly that was sitting on the monitor screen
I agree with Sarkyfox.
cos i like U2 and everyone else is ganging up on her
they make me feel a little bit sick.
another reason: they are all REALLY UGLY. and OLD.
he actually believes he's Jesus Christ.
Genuinely. I think he told someone once.
I went to Frog about, well, a year ago actually, and they played Vertigo. Whatabunchofcunts. I don't go to an indie club to hear old man attempt to play edgy rock. That's what Virgin Radio is for.
what if the "old man" is Lou Reed? Or Thurston Moore?
except he called it 'Dirty Boots'.
and actually succeeding then I don't think age would be a problem. Lou Reed and Thurston Moore have definitely been edgy for a portion of their careers. The Edge and his moustache have not.
Or is that hear, hear?
Anyway, I agree.
of good stuff
on every album up till The Joshua Tree in my opinion. After that I lost interest in them. Stop presenting your opinions as absolute fact Traynor, conceited arrogance isn't very becoming.
One's taste in art is necessarily and intrinsically subjective. However, since one's love of art transcends one's rational thought, the expression of opinion takes the form of a indisputable expression of fact. If one fails to transform the opinion into a (spurious) fact then one cannot claim to have a true love of art.
an open mind on all things, apart from the ones I know I'm right about.
U2 helped to keep guitar music popular when Britain was becoming a cesspit of Kajagoogoolike souless bands of prettyboys. When I was at school at that point people were either into U2/Big Country or stuff like Duran Duran.
were into Cabaret Voltaire and Einsturzende Neu Bauten.
you're six years older than me
which is when 'Too Shy Shy' was a hit.
but thats it! The rest is shite!
Members call themselves BONO and "THE EDGE".
Oh, and they're shit. And very badly dated. And shit.
"badly dated". Yes, they need a barcode.
very annoying but I think it would be hard to argue that they have no good songs - among others I do really like Pride, Where The Streets Have No Name, Stay, The Fly, and quite a few others.
that has to be the shittest band bame ever.
