i saw them on saturday, they were as boring as paris hilton.
feel free to try and convince me otherwise.
You just are.
But I tend to agree.
there seems to be about them, but i just found them BORING.
ooh a kazoo. that's nice - we can't hear it.
songs were bland and seemingly unoriginal.
they didn't seem to be doing anything interesting, i couldn't sing you a note of any songs they played if you tortured me.
..I've listened to the album 5 times now. And I cant remember anything about it.
I remember thinking all the songs were very different. And thinking one bit reminded me of architecture in helsinkim, but not as good. And one bit reminded me of the kaiser chiefs, but not as good.
that blow you away when you see them, you go home thinking 'fuck. that show was fucking amazing. that x song was brilliant. i need to see them again. i need to buy their record. i need to recommend them and tell the world about them'
spinto band did not.
they blew me away, I think they got a bit swamped on Saturday at Frog, but then I was probably too wasted to appreciate it properly.
they're not great, but they're doing good indie pop.
I certainly don't think they are deserving of such outrageous slurs - a great album to shave your legs to
and i refuse to debate this with anyone (as they say...) who rates U2 10/10 and likes kelly clarkson (except raz).
stock responses easide, i can understand where you are coming from. when i saw them live they weren'tm ridiculously impressive. Buy the album then come back and say you don't like them.
into it is completely redundant. who gives a fuck if i like U2 and Kelly Clarkson? Who are both great in their own right. i'm not going to get into a U2 debate right now.
so. i don't want to buy the album of someone who are only great on record. for a band i don't think that's a good thing... really.
i refuse to debate... is a common tool used on DiS.
Anyway, bands that were only good on record: the Beatles after 66.
about U2 and it just goes round in circles. i could get into it again, but it's boring reading, and people just talk about bono and what a wanker he is campaigning for debt cancellation blah blah blah and forgetting about their early music.
so! spinto band. they didn't impress me, they were boring, nothing stood out as original... yup.
they have a video on mtv2 list now, and there was a single on DiS radio a bit ago. Go back and listen to them.
and don't have home internet... so, until they become adored by radio1 and such like, i shall remain spintobandless.
it was just not memorable or interesting in any way. other than a bad way.
Bands like The Research are not very good, but doing the indie pop thing.
Or that's what I think of as indie pop. Not sure what I'd say the spinto band were.. other than the obvious..
Elf Power, Elk City, Inbreds, Creeper Lagoon...
and take the band for what they are. great fun with great melodies and a carefree, happy attitude.<p>
of course, it would be pointless to 'try and convince you otherwise' because as usual for your posts, you've already made up your mind and are seemingly closed to suggestions either way.
the lines of what you just said and not just say 'you're wrong. that's it'
the Shazam !
wrong wrong wrong.
as colin's already said, it's plainly obvious from the rest of your posts on this thread that your mind is already made up. i don't see how something anybody is going to say is going to make you change your mind.
so why bother?
but i think that's just me - i don't come across as i mean to on these things.
i was seeing if anyone would come to their defence properly - whether people loved them/were passionate enough about them to try and change my mind. but...
so... why was i wrong then? why do YOU like them so much?
afraid i don't have time to write essays on music messageboards about why or why i don't like a band. and as you've obviously already made up your mind...
i'm quite wound up now, following the most perfect morning in MONTHS.
A pox on you, sarkyfox. A pox indeed.
at least, i make it interesting.
truly, this is the post of the day.
I like reading Sarky wind everyone up...
you're getting het up about it aren't you?
it's affecting you more than a 'what's your favourite x' thread isn't it?
so yes. it is more interesting.
is quite a defined one.
but your inability to rationalise these debates in an adult way seems to result in your falling into the slightly less desirable category.
asked for people to try and defend them as usually i like to hear what other people have to say (esp if they've seen them more than i have and/or own a record) and most, bar a couple, have just said 'you're wrong' and proceeded to attack me.
shall we start again from the beginning?
I listened to some snippets on line but decided against trying to see them when they were playing recently. I was very tired and they didn't sound like they were quite edgy enough.
but you came on and slagged the band off using as few words as possible (and no justification in your original post) as well. Surely that makes you as 'bad' as everyone else?
I'm going to eat a cookie.
that is, in one word, a justification.
i then went on to explain why i didn't like them. and i haven't attacked anyone else like i have been myself.
Please read my response before choosing to reply.
Your thread title was 'Spinto band, they really suck'
It's not exactly condusive to a mature debate on whether or not the band are any good - particularly one where you may *SHOCK* alter your opinion, even slightly.
Maybe if it said 'I'm not keen on the Spinto Band', people may have taken you a little more seriously?
'spinto band, they really suck
i saw them... etc'
where - i said i thought they were boring.
the thread title is naturally designed to catch peoples attention and get them to post. so, that one was what i came up with.
and i am open to changing my opinion - the only person that has really tried to has been nice_squirrel who defended them and put across her opinion quite well.
you hate Sarah, for some unknown reason, we get it.
Or possibly one of those ones that sits on your computer from an internet site.
christ, just because i'm having an argument with someone, doesn't mean i hate them.
what is this, the playground?
(cue loads of people making jokes about a) paedophiles, b) us being children or c) me, naked on a swing)
to be fair. you're attacking me really.
we're not even talking about spinto band anymore.
I just haven't seen you this anxious to try to put someone down since the days chris_is_cool was a regular poster...
but the words smiley indie pop worried me slightly unless it is like Ooberman who had 3 ace songs and it was only their fans you wanted to punch - I agree with Sarkers about defining a 'really good band' by leaving the venue with your head buzzing, but hey let's all have an e-fight. As I said I'm not goung to be reactionary as I haven't heard a morsel from them. Actually why I proffering an opinion to something I don't have an opinion on?!?!?
more like Creeper Lagoon...
i thought their first single 'oh mandy'(?) was ok - nothing amazing but had potential. I heard their second single briefly this morning and i found it quite irritating. I'm just not 'getting' them, I'm afraid...
which admittedly isn't much - they sound ace
to say they are as boring as Paris Hilton makes me think there must be two Spinto Band's and that the one you've seen is the wrong one
The Joshua Tree.
Does that help you?
What happens if I listen to them tonight and come on here and say 'I think they are gash' - does that mean I'm wrong/right?
Cause that's what this site is like.
I've no problem with people disliking things, but when people openly criticise things without any real justification, it just reeks of deliberate controversy-stirring.
she's stated why she doesn't like them, makes perfect sense to me.
If it was James Blunt, you wouldn't really give a shit...
i'm not doing this just to piss people off. i thought they sucked. i said so. i said why. everyone else is getting really defensive.
when was the last time he posted a serious comment?
And I thought it was quite a funny post of Sarky's actually. Doesn't matter if she's right or wrong surely? You seem to be the only person actually offended by the oft-used technique of hyperbole, here...
I'm being Joe Reasonable I thought crabbers?
they just sound like a Chris Morris version of indie pop. Having said that... they're not too bad
it sometimes veers towards the smug in worrying ways. I think its only becuase I used to have a fairweather friend who was a 'fan' of 'twee' and he was the most self centered social retard with more money than sense I've ever met. And also quite smug.
now that you come to mention it.
but I love the Spinto Band, hearing one song on record made me watch them live, and they were wonderful. Happy and melodic and innovative, and a refreshing change from all the bands with asymmetrical haircuts and 'angular' riffs that are around at the moment. I'm an unashamed fan of twee, and I could understand if people found them irritatingly happy, but not boring.
on that digital radio.
(It will be yours, oh yes, it will be yours, etc. etc.)
That definitely said 'they'll' not 'they're' when I posted it. GRRRR.
obviously you'd like them nicey. Twee is your thing.
I sometimes like twee, but it has to have something else to it.
Much like how some people can like electro, but it has to have some substance, I just like the throbbing synths and stupidly splashy snare sounds.
oh wait, you were talking about music, right?
isn't it Theo?
why am i immediately singing...
so on the grounds of pro and anti spintos on this site I HATE YOU HATE YOU HATE YOU
Hang on, I haven't made my mind up yet have I?
PROLEFACT: there isn't one on this subject yet I don't think?
blimey - this is what happens when you go to a Comphensive and do an Arts Degree
horrible reading, and totally unfair to be honest.
She's not the first person to post a thread like this...
I hate the Ramones, do I need to tell you why?
