college bores me. this guy gets me through. some sort of elliott discussion, how do you guys feel about him?
really, that is what i am listening to right now. i cant help but feel either or is his best. although xo does have the song waltz #2 pure genius that track. by looking at music critics comments, they make from a basement on a hill out to be his best?
I don't have so i can't possibly pass judgement on that, but out of the albums i do have, XO gets played the most...
is my favourite too, good choice delve
i read a lot about elliott yesterday, there is some very intersesting stuff on wikipedia.com. a lot of controversy around his death. on his suicide 'elliott' was spelt incorrectly and was spelt elliot'
he chose the name elliott. his original name was stephen i think. maybe. i dunno. conspiracy sucks
and too depressed, and to into killing himself, to be arsed about spelling?
fair comment. he was obviously very focused on suicide because he had absolutely no hesitation marks before he stabbed himself.
but in this world, suicide sells, and it seems to have worked in his case too...
as tragic as it is.
i dont like to think that the only reason he is big is because he commited suicide. his pure talent should make [people want to listen.
but the fact is, suicide does sell music. Look at Nirvana...
there's still an open verdict on his death.
wikipeda also says that. i'm all for a good conspiracy theory but around stuff like this? no way.
i know. to be honest i would prefer if all the conspiracies did not exist and e.s would be left to rest in piece. i guess its human nature though to question and provoke. sick sick
but check out www.myspace.com/theambersband, for fans of elliot's marvellous music. obviously i'm not sayin I'm even half as good as he was, but check it out :)
that was a shameless plug. yeah, his lyrics are very dark and crushing at times. everything reminds me of her gets me everytime.
of from a basement.. is somewhat akin to being buried alive, i feel.
One of the greatest songwriters of all time.
Favourite are s/t and roman candle
with xo close behind.
and Roman Candle
definitely. although with more listenings roman candle could catch up, but sweet adeline is just beautiful
exactly the same stuff as me
possibly one of the most heartbreaking songwriters i've ever heard
I am pretty much obsessed.
As soon as I hear Angeles I just melt.
Some of the best tracks are the bsides.
You can find some wocked ones here:
Basement is probably my favourite. They're all great though.
the s/t is the one that i love the most, mostly
that figure 8 is his best. it's often criticised for being a bit overblown by his standards but i think it's incredible. Son Of Sam is one of the greatest songs ever written and happiness is perhaps even better.
If you've never heard any elliott smith i urge you to go and buy some. Anything, other than perhaps roman candle and the self-titled, which are a little to bare and raw if you've never heard him before.
i largely find his more upbeat songs the most depressing, and XO has so many of those...
was the first one I got so I have a soft spot for that. I don't have a favourite but it wouldn't be the last one.
I actually discovered Elliottt Smith from an NME cover cd that had this song and it was such a beautiful and heartbreaking song that I had to get his whole stuff.
NME used to have some good cds at times, now its all shit bands, They had introdced me to Sparklehorse as well and the genious of Mark Linkous
Figure 8 for me too! I'd throw about three songs off it to make it perfect but it's definitely my favourite.
Elliott has been a huge influence to me. Sadly missed.
Every single second of his music just oozes melody. He's the only musician I've ever been upset about losing, he had so much more to give but what he has left behind is truly beautiful.
Fuck it, I'm going to put XO on
My ex-girlfriend still has it, Either/Or will more than suffice
XO is his best album, without a doubt. It's genius.
