I've only really loved two YYY tracks, Maps and Y Control. Everything else I've heard by them seems very meh. Is the new album similar to the first?
bit more tuneful than the last and less garagy (if thats a word)
im listnin up to track 7 now, number 6 cheated hearts is well gooooood!!

this sounds good. i fucking new theyd deliver the goods. they are an extremely good band.
This sounds shit.
I don't want the YYYs to be bad
Will not post any links but certain well known torrent sites have this for download also.
it seems to be WAY better than 'Fever To Tell', which was a huge disappointment after the early ep and singles.
it's infinitely worse on first listen.
i'd even venture to say 'shite'.
i like a couple of the songs, but really this is NOT what you want from the YYYs.
looks like we'll have to listen to The Seconds instead now.
Dudley is by far the stand out track on it.
I thought Fever To Tell was hugely dissapointing after how good the first couple of EPs were.
Now they really ARE crap!
This sounds like a whole other band. And one I wouldn't like.
fever to tell, and i respect the band for doing something different unlike some of their peers. and i gotta say it sounds mighty good aswell. dudley and honey bear and oh everything on its great.
has rarley been off my speakers today... best song they've ever done. Possibly.
Oink (with track nine and the bonus Japan track as well)
What DO you look for in your rock and roll?!
i have to say, i think the YYYs, like Liars, got too popular for their own good off the back of their first album. Liars alienated loads of people with "They Were Wrong..." but they've been good enough to stay interesting, but the YYYs just don't seem to have the ideas. Karen O is perfect as the punk sexpot, but all of this calmer stuff on the new album is bordering on MOR because it's not her forte at all.
i gave the lp another listen and it's not as bad as i first thought, but frankly I always preferred "Rich" YYYs to "Maps" YYYs.
that 'Fever To Tell' was a bit undercooked, almost as if they had to stick an album out before they had quite enough new songs to make it worthwhile. Don't get me wrong, there is good stuff on there, but I just found that too much of it seemed rather perfunctory and as a result it's probably one of my least played CDs. I think that at the time of its release, they had used up most of the good material that they had on hand with earlier releases.
In contrast, although there can be debates over whether or not the new album is a worthwhile step in a different direction, it certainly feels well-crafted and the record that they wanted to make NOW, whether or not the fans of their earlier work are going to like it.
and i thought the first half of it especially was perfect as an example of lo-fi punk. obviously it was overhyped as it was doing nothing new at all and it's ludicrous that a band with their sound was/is charging £20 a show.
now they still aren't doing anything new, but they're infinitely less interesting without the same energy - it's there in patches and those patches are really rather good but when it's not there... karen o almost sounds like joanna newson. in the worst possible sense.
