Apparently Weller said he'd rather eat his own shit than duet with Clunt. Any views on this considered opinion?
they'd both eat shit
Saturday night peak time sorted!
Which do you prefer, Chlymidia or Herpes?
is god to me. Maybe it's not healthy, I don't care, you're all wrong!
versus turd sandwich
Paul Weller is an absolue legend.
But how anyone can think he's a "modfather" now is beyond me! Emos look more Mod than he does in his baggy suits and t-shirts.
he slagged off some other people too, it actually made me laugh, even though he's idiot.
someone on here posted a link to it before? anyone?
but legend he aint. and he's just fucking embarrassing now.
No doubt about that.
and definately knows what he's on about, and lest face it, his comments about James Blunt were all true.
was responsible for writing almost all of the Jam's output, and some of his solo stuff (Wild Wood especially) has been fantastic. As far as I'm concerned, he's earned the right to do and say pretty much anything he pleases. Anyway, since when did making no bones about thinking the Brit Awards are a rancid exercise in back-slap wankery make anyone "an idiot"? Are we supposed to blithely accept that it's perfectly fine for a hair gel company and a brewing giant to pretty much own rock and roll? Should we all happily skip to HMV and buy the Clunt album, safe in the knowledge that a Brit Award is surely the mark of True Musical Genius, and our lives we be fulfilled?
Weller recently described iPods as "like miniature fridges, without the beer". Yeah, he's antiquated and he hardly speaks for Da Yoof these days, but he's a middle aged bloke for fuck's sakes. What do you want him to do? Get a facelift? Wear some eyeliner? Traipse around Camden in hipster flares and a leopardprint coat, gobbing on tourists? Even in the punk days, The Jam weren't interested in the idiocy of punk and the sheep mentality, which is exactly why he quickly turned his back on all that shite - as did Lydon, as did Strummer. And while we're on the subject of Lydon, who would you rather aspire to be - a sad middle-aged misanthropist who's still desperately clinging to (and trying to milk yet more millions from) the cash punk cow despite having made NO GOOD RECORDS for aaages, or a pretty contented middle-aged misanthropist who's long since learned to view the World at large with a wry smile, and the music industry as a loathesome, idiotic hive of wankers who deserve all the disdain you can muster?
What he said.
but Weller was a Tory cunt then and a boring irrelevance now.
problem with Weller personally.
Obvious DiS-hatred target though. He likes mod kindsa bands.
BUT once made some good songs. he was creative rather than eye-squelchingly derivative, and had the guts to quit his band at the height of their success to move onto something else. can't see james blunt doing that anytime soon. [alas.]
it is highly doubtful that james blunt will ever even come close to making anything resembling a good song.
in addition, paul weller's face doesn't scream "PUNCH ME!! PUNCH ME!!!!" so he wins points for that.
for PiL's metal box. So on the Lydon vs Weller comment, I'll stick with Johnny Rotten.
And Seymour, it seems to me that its actually Paul Weller clinging onto his former glories- his most recent work sounds like he couldve written it 30 years ago (and I mean that in a derogatory sense).
on the PiL comment.
but if I had to pick, I'd rather be Weller.
I'd LOVE to see Gen punch James Blunt. Is there any way DiS can arrange for it to happen?
i just heard blunt on the radio "commenting" on weller's opinion. "don't believe everything you read in the papers", he said. twice. insightful words there, marvellous. this is the first time i have heard him speak - was he raised in a helium tank? perhaps that's why he wears that perma-"quizzical" expression.
did he cry ?
has he written a heartfelt ballad about it ?
