yay, but why?
if it's good enough for Pavement etc, then why not.
Used to be an essential venue on the indie circuit until the promoters killed it by just booking skatepunk groups...
The council killed it by introducing a minimum local bands quota for every week. When it got changed back, people had moved on and shows are more likely at Club 85 these days.
Shame, I used to LOVE the Square.
go hang out there after college
club 85 is a much nicer venue.
i only went to the square once, the band did the fake encore thing but as you have to walk through the crowd to get to the "backstage" area, they just kinda stood at the side of the stage for a few moments before going back on.
lot based in relation to 'Arlo' then?
the mighty Sawbo me.
went to school in Stortford
My old band got to the final of the rock contest at the Square a few years back, we were pretty boy indie at the height of nu metal, we were against two metal bands in the final and lost spectacularly
The Square used to be great, seen some great bands there - British Sea power, Eighties Matchbox, Drugstore, The Crocketts, The music (it was a good gig!), Cooper temple Clause even fucking Coldplay. It was part of my musical youth
and it is (or was) a million times better than Club 'Phoenix Nights' 85, who's sound guy's idea of a sound check was 'CAN YOU HEAR IT?'
pm then. I've just read.
My excuse...I was born in Harlow, and am therefore naturally slow.
ha ha, my sister was born in Harlow, yet I was born in Epping, meaning I am better than her.
fucking City, 'ave it!
grandparents live there.
Polar opposite time, I played the rock contest years back and got chucked off.
Mind it sounds far more exciting than it was.
But yeah generally have fond memories of the Square, saw Stereolab and The Beta Band there, which remain two of the best gigs I've been to. Oh and I remember clocking Gary Numan there once.
could you possibly improve the Harvey Centre?
If you ask me, they ruined it when they removed the grafitti on the side that said "SLAGBONCE" sometime in the 90's.
that sounded a bit contradictory.
Perhaps what I meant to say was that all they needed to do by way of improvements was to spraypaint a few more ineffectual 80's insults on the side. "PLONKER", for instance. Or "TOSSNONCE".
looks like neither. My Nan makes up for it though by looking like both.
