It is just genuinely beyond me.
I also can't understand it. There must be at least something anyone must like...
youre wrong. empiricly. loads of their songs are short or faster.
amnesiac is an absolute masterpiece by any standards at all.
I honestly think they're somehow 'defective' as human beings.
a bit indie in the 90s
half the songs. That half are very very very good. The other half are a bit pootripe.
but I cannot stand it when I am forced to listen to it coming through my ceiling!
are pretty good but only that.
Being called like the best thing ever confuses me.
They are about the only 'big' band I would like to see live though.
but appreciate people for not liking them and there is the Fake Plastic Trees type fan and then the 'Natonal Anthem' type fan which confuses me - why I even like Vegetable on Pablo Honey.
So anyone want to buy my scratched copy of the Drill EP on vinyl then zzzzzz
are very clever and all and I think even the most vehement hater has to concede that. They are consistently creative and innovative and produce high quality stuff. But when it comes down to it, they are just too PO-FACED and EARNEST in the extreme. They should do a comedy record. It wouldn't be funny though.
have you heard 2+2=5?
you're just wrong. i couldn't stretch my arms wide enough to show how wrong you are.
worst track on OKC. The only one I consider skipping...
listen to it on headphones. magic.
they're too up their own arse to be enjoyable. Also, sometimes bands have it and others don't. A lot of the stuff Radiohead produces should be amazing, but even though musically it's great, lyrically its' great, productions great and everything, it's just not great. Then you get some of the simpliest 3 chord songs ever, and their great.
I find them very meh. ALL my friends love them and i've heard plenty of their garbage.
I really find it to be boring boring pretentious wank.
is alright. Everything they've done ever since is gash of the highest order.
Radiohead are great.
roughly 50% of Radiohead fans are very annoying though
*with the elephant gun he foolishly dropped*
who loves the bends but not ok computer. he just listens to high and dry and fake plastic trees all the time. and creep. I find those songs average. I like all their albums but I honestly think Hail To the Thief is their best as well as OK Computer. Having said that i didnt own any of their stuff till about 6 months ago.
I would see such a pouring of anti Radiohead feeling on DiS....
Than people not liking radiohead is those horrible stuck in the 90s indie britpop types who don't like anything after The Bends.
...with rspce and wishpig.
I find them rather boring.
not rspce and wishpig.
Virtually everything I have heard by Radiohead has bored me or irritated me. Occasionally both. The bits that haven't been too bad still weren't good enough for me to care about hearing them again.
(That's five or six singles, and some of other people's favourite album tracks which they've forced in my direction in an attempt to turn me.)
The music seems to be utterly passionless (which I'm assured isn't true, but that's still the way I hear it). Thom Yorke has a very irritating voice. The songs that were apparently groundbreaking and experimental reminded me of other stuff. Sadly I can't use specific examples because I've willingly forgotten them.
his voice irritates me beyond belief...
and ok computer
and about half of Kid A
I find the rest boring
the only thing radiohead have done i don't love is the bends, though pablo honey probably only has nostalgiac value
I find that people who dislike them are put off yet more by the fact that a good percentage of their fans refuse to believe that you could not like them ;-)
I think it's the fact that it takes a bit of effort to get into radiohead. I didn't like them at first. I thought OK Computer was bollocks.
and I dislike the criticisms of them as 'too earnest' there's too much irony and detachment in music. it's nice to hear someone with something to say saying it with conviction.
do they have to say? i agree about the conviction and that generally...
I like them, but i don't love them. Anything before O.K computer doesn't interest me, and hail to the thief also doesn't interest me that much. 'Kid A' is their best, I love 'The national anthem' and 'everything in its right place, though the album takes perseverance and time for it to shine.
They are a great band, and with so many diverse albums to check out, its hard not to like them.
listen to radiohead. I have no real opinion on them, I jsut choose not to listen.
I find them a bit boring too. I guess I don't actively dislike them but I can never really connect with their stuff. Having said that I haven't heard a great deal of the post-OK Computer stuff so I might like that better I guess.
it's considerably better.
i like radiohead,
but radiohead fans tend to be knobs.
have got all albumns cept the last, i never listen to a whole album all the way through though.
they are prpbably too good and skillful and clever for their own good so i can see why peoplew might hate them.
but on the other hand thom is a phenominal singer, yes hes whiney...but isnt that what their songs are about, pain dislocation alianation lostness
Creep perfectly sums up exactly how i feel inside, best of all, and always makes me cry
I did like them when they did soaring, anthemic rock songs for the outcast and awkward, when they used their undoubted talent to focus and articulate the subliminal rage and frustration that defines modernity. Then they suddenly did a sharp left and disappeared straight up each others arses. The last few albums have been elitist bore-a-thons and are largely unlistenable without first medicating yourself up to the eyeballs and strapping yourself into a chair to stop yourself grabbing a knife and SEVERING YOUR OWN HEAD.
What radiohead lyrics are to me is a very poetic and inventive expression of how I feel about the political climate. The sum up the powerlessness which people feel. The imagery is amazing. the use of banal phrases turned on their heads into despairing slogans. I think they're very clever and the way he sings them makes them very beautiful too.
hail to the thief - shit
amnesiac - shit
kid a - shit
ok computer - shit
the bends - shit
my irong lung - shit
pablo honey - shit
really, the only thing they ever did that was any good was 'pop is dead', right? RIGHT? RIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIGHT?
But I hate everything about them.
like 'I want to be a hippy' or 'ace of spades'?
or just a nice song about flowers. that'd be pleasant.
also, why can't he sing like a real person? silly thom.
told me that Radiohead were as bad as Good Charlotte. He also told me that reading was for gays and smart boys.
I don't like him
I like the cut of this dude's gib
Misfits and Rise AGainst.
good charlotte > radiohead
with Radiohead is absurd. Good Charlotte is ridiculous in the extreme and not worth this cyberspace print. Good Charlotte is not music for serious fans of music, but rather 12 year old skater kids who haven't been wearing their helmets.
Up until very recently I'd have said Thom Yorke can't sing fer shite, that Radiohead is incredibly overrated. I've pulled back from that opinion. Yorke's voice still grates on me after prolonged listening (if he'd just lay off those high-high notes!) but when he's not breaking glass with androgynous falsettos he can be rather great. Songs such as Electioneering are terrific. Still, I find the drone that is Amnesiac pretentious wank and prefer when they play to their strength which is Greenwood's guitar anthems. I really like The Bends, for example. Anyhow, the bottom line is I can appreciate why someone would really love this band. Personally, I think they're very good, but not great.
Nice to see your posts are still so long.
I've always been a massive, massive radiohead fan though, and those who know me well know this. I own every album, and about 25 other random cd's. I cannae wait for the new album, and the tour whici will follow it.
its his name, surely he can get in right!!
tom = big tick
thom = red marker all over the margins.
silly old tom!
I can spot sarcasm a mile away!
Replace previous post with:
Radiohead's, erm uh, alright.
(ahhhh! canna help myself....)
Beginning in 1994 with their auspicious debut, Pablo Honey, Radiohead redefined.....
don't deserve good music. Or something.
Seriously though, "pretentious"? Since when has DiS been run by IPC magazines? "Pretentious" is a word for the smug, self-satisfied, substance-devoid hipster crap peddled by the vast majority of the non-mainstream music media these days. NOT a band as continually vital and thoroughly un-pretentious as Radiohead.
And as for the use of their "seriousness" as a criticism - is this seriously what we've come to? A band that gives a shit about anything is instantly crap because they're too "serious"? Not to mention the fact that, actually, anyone who's listened to Radiohead properly would know that they do have a sense of humour (e.g. "We Suck Young Blood", "You and Whose Army", etc).
*shakes head in disbelief*
*inserts wink smiley to show it's all in good humour*
Not sure how you and whose army is humourous mind.
Winking smiley for the headline...
