are very underrated ain't they!
But their albums have been a bit...
Not so great? Not messy enough. Producers keep tidying it up too much.
Still OK though.
I wanna see them live.
wrong. The first album's ace, and plenty messy. RAWK.
The second album is a bit too tidy though, I'll agree with you on that. Still fucking brilliant though.
I have a t-shirt and a badge. I may be a groupie. They played Bardens about six months ago. Yes they did.
I was just listening to them again this weekend, remembering how good they were. Wish I'd caught them live. I fear they may have split up, or at least been dropped from SubPop (they're not listed on the SP website anymore).
No Culture Icons and A Stare Like Yours are CHOONS.
come to think of it (re: the RAWKness), why was chris walla allowed near them? they should just record on a broken 4-track in a shed or something.
they will be my slaves, and will never be allowed to progress!
but "fuckin' a" isn't shit, it's just a bit more polished.
they are awesome. they seem to get a rough deal, promotion-wise though. i saw them at the bierkeller last year, there was about 15 people there. boo!
they played pretty much every song they have at 10000000mph - excellent.
Yeah I do love the Thermals. A bit samey but great pop tunes.
what do they sound like?
Y'see - first EP was raw, raging, accelerated 4-track new wavey post-grunge punky cleverness with hacksaw rough edges and searingly lo-fi textures. Album didn't quite fulfil the promise, but was good. Second album - their sound was smoothed out it was just nowhere near as good in any way.
the first album is ace, if a little samey. i like the second album too, although it does have less of an edge. brainlove, i seem to remember you saying you didn't like 'power pop' so i suppose it's kind of inevitable you don't enjoy "fuckin' a".
alcxxk, you can download a couple of tracks from each album on the sub pop website - start with 'no culture icons'. the video is great too.
