what was everyone's worst piece of spending this year?
I returned Unknown Pleasures to Music Zone, so I had 'credit' to buy a £6 album.
I got the soundtrack to the Graduate, expecting it to be all the Simon and Garfunkel stuff from the film and more. Instead, its about 6 of their songs, three are exactly the same. The next 6 are terrible background orchestral... fanny. You can't classify it.
I bought UP again, by the way, for £2, as it had no case.
i really liked the first 2.
This one was awful !
utterly devoid of any soul, passion or emotion. It bored me to tears.
god bless 'try before you buy' :D
i just have fantastic taste, natch.
(no, i do not say 'natch' in real life, ever)
other stuff of theirs is great. this made the double-mistake of being crap and overly-long. it sounds like r.e.m. b-sides.
Ice Cold Ice is great.
I was sorely disappointed with the Spoon album.
In your honour, it is perhaps the biggest pile of wank ever committed to CD.
also regrettable were
hypnotize - SOAD
safe as fuck - GLC
I bought the newest Mars Volta album, mainly on account of my dad bitching incessantly about wanting to hear it...anywhoo...yeah it's complete and utter fucking gash. Needless to say, I demanded reimbursment from my father.
Frances the Mute changed my life. you must be an arctic monkeys fan or something
one by one is surely worse, I mean they couldn't get get any worse without it coming round each purchaser's house and destroying their previously actually half decent albums with a sledge hammer.
worst album I at least try not to buy bad albums but the magic numbers do get a little bit sickly after a number of listens.
sometimes I hear the cheesey guitars in my nightmares :(
I'll have it...
fucking love Frances the Mute, it's brilliant.
Foo Fighters - In Your Honor. And to think that they used to be one of my fave bands. I've lost all musical respect for them now, they're obv past it (but I still love the first two albums)
No Wow. Was that 2005?
I thought Keep On Your Mean Side was ace. Bitterly disappointing
Foo Fighters was my biggest disappointment. Many people lost faith after the second record (which I think is their one classic) but to be honest I had liked them all until this one. And the live show was still very entertaining.
Let's hope Dave remembers what Rock is next time...
Most disappointing may've been the new Eels one. Which is still pretty damn good
and the Martin Grech one. The rest was all great.
...I liked the Weezer album, me.
I still like Make Believe.
I also liked Open Season and Lullabies to Paralyse.
I rate Illinois less than i did...
foo fighters in your honor
just a really boring album to be honest
but the weakest were Antony and the Johnsons, Eels and Mercury Rev. Thank god I didn't actually buy the Weezer one.
i thought it was bloody terrible.
I'd probably have to say Open Season. I loved The Decline Of so much, and I resisted the temptation to not download Open Season when it first leaked.
It's got some good songs on, but I literally never listen to it.
Same with Worlds Appart actually.
both of Monpot's answers. He is wise, very very wise.
Also the VHS Or Beta album. Oops.
Only because Forward Russia were supporting.
I left halfway through VHS Or Beta.
the Engineers album.
the last Weezer one (why I bother with them anymore I don't know...)
Francis the Mute hasn't been listend to in months so I'll nominate that as well.
especially as i really enjoyed their live shows.
album on the recomendation of my girlfriend. I was also misled.
On the basis of a friend saying, "You like music don't you? You'll like Panic! At The Disco."
have anything to do with it, or is that just pure coincidence?
pure coincidence. I have considered changing it since, I'm ashamed of my namesake.
But you'd lose all your posts with it.
neubauten are great
I loved Wires by Athlete the first couple of times I heard it so I bought the album - Tourist, wasn't it? The album was dull as ditchwater so I gave it to my housemate's sister. She loves it, so at least it's found a happy home.
Same melodies again, same riffs, nearly the same songs! E was so lazy when making this album he couldn't even be arsed to pick which tracks were shit and which weren't. Oh yeah, just stick an extra cd on. It left me totally cold which was really sad as their first four albums are mint.
Autolux? I'm interested in knowing why, I thought "Future Perfect" was stunning.
autolux are goooooooood
QOTSA's newbie is horrible...
...im sure there was something utterly minging...
Foo's new one is also atrocious, but kinda expected i tihnk, apparently they only played three songs from the new album at the glasgow date so perhaps they dont hold it in too high regard either...
Canna believe The Kills and Autolux find themselves in this thread. I thought both albums were rather great.
I bought a Richard Ashcroft album last year...oi vey, what crap!
But if we're talking about a new release, erm I dunno, maybe Billy Corgan's FutureEmbrace.
Greatest Hits album because I liked 'White Rabbit' and 'Somebody To Love'. They are the only decent two songs that were on it- the rest is beyond shit. I threw it in the bin.
you only ever hear those two songs played anywhere ever by that band. the reason being...everything else they did was garbage!
as jefferson starship they WERE in the star wars holiday special, so you can't argue too much..
about Jefferson Airplane.
Best decision ever.
I bought 'Volunteers' by them last year. I quite like it although i can see how plenty of people would think it's a load of old hippy crap. Amazing that they eventually morphed into Starship.
I don't hold The Kinison album in especially high regard...
