Are they good?
I'm in love with a pair of their songs, and wondering if they are cool.
think a large number of people on here disagree with me. But I reckon they're pretty cool.
"cool" seal of approval it will be ok for you to like them?
Also the NME loves them so many people will hate them for that.
Who actually doesn't like bands based on NME liking them? Nobody, surely. People say that all the time, but it's not actually true. If a band is good, people will like them regardlss of the NME's reaction.
who use the NME as the method of learning what is "hot" and what is "not". Its a magazine, it imparts its ideals and opinions on the reader. Like girls wanting to be skinny having read Cosmo and shit.
don't fucking read NME. It's shit. It is more interested in making money from advertising than introducing any god damn fucking kid to any music that is cool. Read Plan B. If it isn't in your local newsagent then ask your newsagent fella WHY? when? WHEN THE FUCK ARE YOU GONNA STOCK THIS MAGAZINE???? Plan B rules, trust me.
the contrary. I expect the DiS popular opinion of them to be 'gash' or something. They aren't boundary breaking or anything, and, like you say, the NME loves them.
But Brainlove, the person has a point. I remember around probably... July last year, coming on here and reading big threads full of Arctic Monkey praise.
The NME gets their hands on them and WHOOOSH! They become 'boring' and 'nothing new' etc.
Its undeniable that the NME has massive influence on most people into 'alternative' music. The readers follow its opinions, the haters have the complete opposite opinion.
When the Monkey's first appeared, it was pretty much only me and Jared who'd seen them or heard them. I think Jared sent a few tracks around, and I certainly sent Brainlove and Crablin the demo of "I Bet You Look Good". Crablin liked it, Brainlove didn't. He always had the exact criticism he sticks too now.
Also, as an irrelevant aside I have kicked the guy who wrote the first NME article on them.
Haven't heard Boy Kill Boy though
wouldn't like them, though, would he?
Junkplanet spits in their eyes, apparently, so he's not going to say he likes them, even if he did. It would scar his reputation.
I'm talking about the weak, followers he's got. People like marco and thom-fa etc. They all probably loved them when they were new.
As do I, the division is more or less what it was when they appeared. You should give Brainlove more credit, his tastes aren't actually that far into left field. Everything he likes is at the very least listenable and always interesting.
Monkeys'd never be Marco's thing either
He likes Snow Patrol and Maximo Park, doesn't he?
I don't know about Snow Patrol, Maximo Park have more of an art-rock thing going on than the monkeys, which i suppose could be "more interesting". Don't know to be honest, I've never understood their popularity, good point though
me they all seem very similar.
Its like regional indie or something... You've got your Kaisers from Leeds, MP are geordies, AMs - Sheffield.
I think lesbianDENNIS will be the Burnley version. LOL!
the Artic Monkeys
i've said i've liked them.
that's just plain weird. As its you I assume you've misunderstood the meaning of 'regional' or something.
now be my friend on myspazz...
was absolutely awful !
Nearly as bad as the Kooks...
good bands that get good reviews in NME are still good, even if NME have only arrived at that conclusion seemingly by accident.
make sense? probably not. je ne sais pas, innit.
so i went to see them live and was bored to death! 'suzie' is the only song that stands out, the rest are very mediocre in my opinion.
i've got a fan !
they were ok and I am a miserable ,hard to please old bastard.
