musical integrity, or tits'n'ass?
as i hadn't considered the latter. Why do you think it's on the music forum?
who finds that post incredibly offensive.
this is mainly an indie message board i thought it was an ok question.
But, i did have my tongue firmly in my cheek!
'indie' was a by-word for 'sexism'.
You're a bloke posting about bands that are marketed as much (if not more) for their looks than their music, on a board that's mainly fully of geeky people who care more about music than looks.
Hence there's nothing wrong with marco checking what sort of comments you actually want.
that marco even wanted to check gives thommo ground for his commets?
I mean i was joking a little anyway!
I am offended by being called a sexist!
I mean, jeez i hold doors open and everything! ;-)
i'm sorry, it just pissed me off (as many things are prone to do). Obviously i'm more to blame than anyone else.
Well it's not like anyone else has ever overeacted on these boards. I've certainly never seen Marco or me do it.
it just annoys me that people can barely see beyond how they're marketed, i.e. as eye rather than ear pleasers.
And anyway i think Sugababes altered pop's image drastically anyway. Before them it seemed to be that all pop bands had high-camp styling and shit-eating grins, then the three of them came along all moody and giving Nickelodeon presenters evils. Not unlike GA thinking about it...
you're a hypocrite
i do :(
Girls aloud are the ONLY mainstream girly chart pop band that i have enjoyed listening to since the spice girls.
yes. Shame you had to bring the bane of my junior-school life into it though...
After Sugababes gave us TLC-Lite with the last single, Girls Aloud party-popped my ass into submission with Biology.
I am obviously not including Girls Aloud's terrible cover versions in this argument. Because they suck.
But for FULL-ON PARTY POP YES SIR the answer, at the start of 2006, is Girls Aloud. Sugababes lose points for Mutya leaving, and employing someone who used to be in a band called 'Boo 2' which is officially the worst band name in recorded history.
their past performance urinates from a phenominal height on just about every other "pop" "group" of the past, oooh five or ten years. i reckon.
i don't "get" the fuss about Girls Aloud. Even 'Ugly' was better than 'See The Day' (is that what it's called?)
I'm not including the cover versions in this debate, because they suck!
musical integrity of Girls aloud as a pure *PoP* act is of a pretty high standard. If they could just step away from "safe" covers then all would be swell.
musically speaking. In terms of 'pop' bands, I think they have an unrivalled collection of singles over the last few years. Overload, Run for Cover, Freak Like Me, Round Round, Push the Button, Hole in the Head were all great, a couple of them almost classic pop songs.
I'd rather do Girls Aloud though.
are better - they make better pop songs!
started to think it was a rare viewpoint 'round these parts.
thinking that Mutya isn't hideous seems to be an even rarer viewpoint, but hey.
she was the nicest one of the three.
the black one has always dressed the same way and really isn't that sexy. and the accent ruined heidi.
Although I did like Siobhan Donaghy.
sugababe me up.
Fucking Girls Aloud. Fucking Observer music monthly trying to pretend they're not shite. Fucking Julie Burchill. Argh. Fucking fuck.
Sugababes are aight...
Good Sugababes songs:
Run For Cover
Hole In The Head
Freak Like Me
Good Girls Aloud songs:
Sound Of The Underground
Wake Me Up
No Good Advice
plus most of the new album, especially Swinging London Town.
Which makes it 7-6 at the very least, and includes a 'sort-of-cover' in the Sugababes list as well.
I liked Stronger too.
Stonger on my list originally, but knocked it off at the last minute because I don't actually like it.
As for Push The Button. Well. I'd forgotten about that. But the new Girls Aloud album has so many potential great singles on it that I could put any one of them.
8-7 to Sugababes then?
Right, it's official: Sugababes are better than Girls Aloud. Bamos has admitted it.
I still stand by Stronger being shite. And I urge you to listen to the new GA record. URGE YOU.
that first list should be titled 'Greatest Collection of Pop Songs Written In The Past Decade...Ever!' and the second list should be 'Some songs that were surprisingly quite good considering'.
There's no personality in their records at all.
They could have been recorded by anyone.
Oh, for the days when Bow Wow Wow were top of the pops...
do you think is *less* shit?
And yes, i must admit, i'd quite like some candy too.
Girls Aloud > Sugababes
It's a close-run thing though.
Well done colonolololol.
is a playground for the unimaginative anyway.
Sanity is where the insane fear to tread. Because they are afraid. Scaredy cat insane people.
or all the other flying elephants here?
NAAAAAYKID in the BREEZE!!
she has anything worth singing...
I think Nadine is the fourth most attractive member of Girls Aloud.
this to get into a discussion about who is the most attractive member of the band, because I genuinely do rate the tunes. But I agree.
I think we agree on all things Girls Aloud and Sugababes related.
you are confused about who are the superior band, yes, we agree.
girls aloud look like scary high maintenance types with rickets and too much spray on oil. Some songs are good though, I'll give them that.
Sugababes are more real, Although my favourites keep leaving
cos Sugababes are the worst band ever...
Five ladyoftheflowers on top? Ladyoftheflowers on cloud 5? High 5?
Ah, high5! Is that it?
I'm the emoticon detective, solving cases <, > and |
They both make decent pop songs.
But Girls Aloud are the fittest girl band ever to have walked the planet.
own sugababes hands down. no competition whatsoever.
but I hate both of them.
McFly >>>>>>>> both of them
but the rules were looser then etc. And it was passed off as 'art' isn't it.
Were there huge billboards outside Virgin on Oxford Street? That must've been a shock.
