You should really try to get your brain out of first gear sometimes.
I have seen them live three times.
I have their album, an EP and two singles.
The three in question:
Decent Days & Nights
Hounds of Love
The rest are one big grey globeluar mass of boredom. Every time I give them another chance, my brain switches off after about three songs.
And yes, I am the all-knowing god of everything ever.
I liked a few songs, so I investigated the EP.
I saw them supporting a few people.
I liked the singles so I got the album.
Sorry, I nodded off there.
IN THE NAME OF CURIOSITY, young music consuming padawan.
*I* have the Futureheads album, and have seen them live three times. And would argue that they actually have no good songs at all. Because they can't write tunes or melodies that anyone could truly care about.
Hounds of Love is good. They should become a covers band.
seen them... erm.. two or three times. it was that thrilling, that i can't remember which. there's praps two or three songs i like... i like the way they sound overall but few of the songs i've heard grabbed me individually. the kate bush cover is OBVIOUSLY great, though i do prefer the original. [breaking new ground with that statement there, marvellous.] i haven't got the album, because i didn't like any of their songs enough to buy it. they bore me a bit.
which three do you mean?
- man ray
- first day
hounds of love is disqualified.
why not be brave and just say what you think!
are three goodun's. After that they start to sound the same to me.
I hired the album recently and have listened to it around 10 times.
My impression of it is that there are some great songs (Hounds of Love and others I can't remember the names of). Some truly irritating ones. And mostly unremarkable ones that I used to find irritating (Robot, First Day, A to B)).
So I don't know if 3 is the exact number of good songs but you have to be pretty damn close in that estimation.
p.s. their videos suck
A jolly sound and personable chaps, but still fundamentally a novelty band - a cover version is pretty much the only thing that they'll be remembered for.
Carnival Kids, Robot, Meantime and Piece of Crap are really quite good, actually. In my humble opinion.
and still only like First Day, if my maths is correct, that's one song i like. The rest never grabbed me
they have one 1 good song!
or rather, one song that i like.
After that, they've become a bit too polished...
Live they are tight, but I feel I should be enjoying it a lot more then I am. They don't have that certain quality to be just more then a decent band.
Because one of those tunes is Kate Bush's not theirs.
I'm in broad agreement. I've heard the album and found it agreeable but I can't really pick out any individual tracks apart from Kate Bush, but then I'm Hetero4KateBush.
(Which makes no sense as I'm Hetero always but 'Gay' would have made even less sense.)
But it's theirs to use.
(c) Joanna Newsom
of their songs blur into a mess of goodness. Answer: they have one good song, all of them.
they're really really good
i prefer the songs which Ross sigs on.
Trying not to think about time
Help Us Out
are my 2 favourites, but I also lik most of their album. First Day, carnival Kids, stupid and shallow... all great.
And they are great live.
I appear to disagree with everyone on this entire page though.
have a singer who's face you'd never tire of battering between a car door, and a voice that sounds like that experience must feel like
i like that one
is a cracker. A little belter. It's ace to listen to in the car with a mate on a road trip when you don't know where you're going and neither does the driver and the windows are down and you're singing along and the sun is shining and then you miss the window with your fag and the back of the car's on fire and IAMAROBOT and putting on fake geordie accents and feeling happy and alive for the whole 40 minutes of the album and WELCOMETOYOURNEWJOB.
go into reviewing, I'd buy it on that if I didn't already own the thingy.
I like the album, like someone said all the songs are sameish so love one = probably like the rest.
their best songs are 'i want to be a hippy' and 'creep'.
we are so cool, nobody else appears to have got this gem of a joke
and given it the wide berth it deserves :)
So they only have one decent song:
Apply Some Pressure.
depending on if you're joking or not.
there fault though. when they first emerged they were interesting with the knackism and the andy gill producing and did i sound referencing stuff ive always loved. now in this sea of imitation newwave/punk/funk bands they seem more shallow and the eppworth sound is starting to grate but at one time i was well up for them and there really nice chaps.
actually agree completely. The three you mentioned are pretty good songs, but on... third listen, their album is arse hair.
..which of John's songs is it you like?
Such a terribly illogical/irrelevant mode of argument though, don't you think? Insulting my music because... why, again? Because I don't like many songs by the Futureheads? The only other person who uses such a retarded style of comeback is Marco - go figure.
Magpieboy... Magpies... Newcastle... Newcastle United... blind loyalty and fanboy aggression... I see how it all links up.
Yeah sure, i may have used that in the past when i was a relative newbie to these here boards. But i haven't used that argument for oooh a good year or so. Anyway, don’t be such a hypocrite. I have seen you use that ‘retarded style’ of comeback a few times in the past. I can recall you saying something like “what do you know, you’re a Vines fan to wrighty in the past.
As each snide little dig goes by, I’m looking forward to meeting you more and more. Roll on the 27th Jan. I wanna meet the REAL brainlove. The guy who had to move to London because he had no friends from his home town and wanted to set up with a load of internet buddies. BooHoo.
they do it all the time...
You know so little. You're like the duracell bunny... Wind it up and then watch it do a little dance, banging away and going round in circles. So full of malice, and seemingly impervious to SO many different kinds of humour...
reading the nice replies of our nice community...
Always good fun.
you are not so dissimilar to myself. Yeah sure, you may be more articulate, yeah sure your grammer may, be, the, GREATEST, grammer, to, ever, ever, grace, these... boards. BUT does this make your opinion any more valid than mine? DO i deserve your childish unprovoked digs?
If i had ALL of the altercations between yourself and I, you would find that you started the vast majority of them?
Just stop it john, you're beginning to sound and act more like wrighty all the time.
Grow up and back off. Nobody likes to see this on the boards anymore. In case you hadn't noticed i'm trying to NOT have as many rows on these boards anymore. Your constant digs are really getting a bit silly now.
You claim it is humour, but that is folly. You know what you are doing so just stop it.
So you don't like me? So what? Do you really need to keep behaving this way? I'm sure you can find something a lot more important to do.
Now fuck off.
was there any need?
"The guy who had to move to London because he had no friends from his home town and wanted to set up with a load of internet buddies. BooHoo."
Half you people I know live in London you nasty little bastard.
Have you not fucked off yet?
you asked for it? Were you not attempting to provoke me?
You asked for it, YOU GOT IT!
I don't want to fight you John, but i'm struggling to ignore you.
Please can YOU grow up.
bored of it. I don't enjoy it, and i'm sure you don't either.
AND nobody else does.
I PROMISE to ignore you and not have digs if you don't have digs at me.
Getting personal is another. It's borderline sociopathic.
Well i've obviously hit a nerve. I had no idea i had pushed a button or whatever.
You have called me - retarded, a simplton, boring. I could probably name a few more but won't. Aren't these insults personal?
Come on john be fair. I did send you an email a few weeks ago apologising and wanting us to MOVE ON did i not?
I retract the statement regarding moving to London. I apologise for saying it. I am MAN enough and BIG enough to say that. AND i mean it too.
Now can we please stop this silly war. We are BOTH behaving like children.
not funny anymore...
trouble maker Lyle ;-)
i'm getting younger with playing with my 8-months son just now...
hell, Fella. He called you a name. No need for a novel explaining why you don't like the bloke.
Millions of people have said this to you now, I'll be the trillionth:
Its only a forum.
LOL, Johnny may not have any real friends, but anyone would think you didn't either. You go really overboard the minute someone other than me says a nasty thing to you.
Cheeky boy. Run along now, or I'll have your pocket money stopped.
sure it's a forum yes. But others as well as myself spend a hell of a lot of time on these boards. While i am at work it helps relieve the tedium. I have arrnaged meets with people from these boards. Hell, people in London have set up their entire social lives around this board.
Is their anything wrong with this? NO, i don't think there is. A lot of us spend a lot of time on these boards including YOU. It is as much a part of our lives as watching TV, going to the pub or whatever.
So if i wanna take offence to something on here, or in the street i will. I won't change my personality just because i can't see them.
I'm not saying you spend too much time on here, because it'd be hypocritical, but if someone's slagging you off, do you not just laugh and go to another page or something?
Humour them maybe, but you are pretty sensitive.
but i am a totally different person to you. How boring would it be if we all were the same.
I'm a sensitive person. DEAL WITH IT. I do!
is not something i can get bored of. They have lots of great songs. They truly come to life when theyre live. It has alot more to offer than most albums in the last year.
Maximo and the Futureheads have totally different accents, one is a Middlesbrough/Geordie cross and the other is a County Durham/Sunderland type thing. Maybe as a northerner only I understand
the Futureheads are from Sunderland and sound like, the singer from Maximo Park is from Billingham, and sounds like it.
they are ace. Forsooth it is Maximo Park that are overrated shite northeners. They have one good song.
Hounds of Love is my least favourite song by the Futureheads together with Piece of Crap, which is crap. Screw Kate Bush.
If you cannot hear the catchy hookage in all of the other songs they have done you are a fool sir!
few Futureheads covers by Numbers could be quite enjoyable!
Hahaha, how can you not like them?
I reckon that the first album proper is a stunning record, and they are a mile better than the rest in their field (retro-gressive, populist, but still quite decent post-punk/new wave inspired indie) e.g Bloc Party, Maximo Park, Franz Ferdinand etc.
got the early ep (123Nul) when it came out(summer 02) and wasnt that fussed, then i picked up the album on a whim and its one of my favs of 04, loving area too.
...everything they've done.
have one great tireless album with more points of interest and lyrical cleverness than anyone will give them credit for.
Don't turn Prole on me Brainlove because he's evil.
not their fault they're popular.
I've seen them live 3 times and I have heard the album a couple of times and they do have 3 good songs.
A to B
Decent Days and Nights
Hounds Of Love
Proper shit otherwise.
is ok, not great though.
Decent days and nights - My sharona really
Hounds of Love - not theirs
So, really only one song, and that is just ok. I've never liked them - the lyrics are awful and the music is so bland and one dimensional, just like maximo park.
That's what i like about arcade fire - everything sounds so lush and about to break. Futureheads et al are far too 'studied' to be properly loved.
that the futureheads could inspire such a passionate response from their defenders.
oh wait, they didnt. saw them support the pixies. they bored me.
What next ?
Free will ?
@ peter. Often that first batch of songs is a band's best. They work hard on them for months and years, honing them, finding their sound etc... second albums are very often a total let down. I think a lot of bands only really have one good album in them, but they keep going interminably anyway. Like the Manics. Because, you know, you would really. Being a musicians is a fun job, whether you're fulfilling your creative potential or not.
