What's he like live? Does he tour much?
about 10/15 years ago. He was pretty fucking amazing from what i remember. Really heartfelt.
I don't recall ever seeing a date announced in the last 5 or so years. I could have just overlooked any though.
here on the greendale tour, not so far on the prairie wind one. he goes come over quite often actually. with crazy horse he's never less than incredible. on his own it depends on the material. i'm an absolutely huge fan and yet the only show i've seen was a stinker on the greendale tour which still stands as the biggest disappointment of my gig going life. but then i was looking forward to it more than usual so that probably ties into it. i'd say give it a go, but only once you've investigated the material he's playing on the tour.
I think a lot of the best performers are inconsistent in terms of the quality of their live shows. Its an indication that they have a large enough back catalogue not to just repeat and perfect the same show every time they play (a la Green Day).
I'll definitely go next time he plays. I'm actually quite excited about getting into more of his stuff now.
He plays occassional dates in Britain.
Reviews are usually good...
I really want to see him.
albums do you own?
i saw him in melbourne once. best gig I have ever been to. he is great, but his 80s stuff can be a little dodgy.
Harvest and Harvest Moon. I've heard After The Goldrush too, but its on my 'to buy' list.
So you're only going for the acoustic stuff?
So far, yeah. I've not really had a chance to hear his 'rockier' stuff yet. Harvest is immense though. I could listen to it over and over again.
you should go buy
everybody knows this is nowhere
rust never sleeps
on the beach
time fades away
tonight's the night
and just about every other album he's made. most are extraordinary, the rest are always at least very interesting.
cheesy as it sounds, neil young is probably one of the best friend you can ever make.
