I heard their record the other day playing in a shop. They're ace, really dirty and raw and distorted, kind of like the Bad Seeds in angry mode. Turns out they're from Glasgow, and they're supporting Mogwai at at least one of their January London dates. Anyone know anything else about them or seen them live?
I've not heard of Uncle John & Whitelock or stupid computer! Do they sound similar?
computers are hard.
I imagine they would sound a bit like Helen Love.
Anyway, Uncle John & Whitelock...
but as i'm the only member and i haven't recorded anything i don't think i should tell you as someone might steal it and make me sad :(
Uncle John & Whitelock is actually really sinister sounding... they'd better make really dark records or i'll be disappointed. But no, i haven't heard them.
asap. But apparently only the vinyl came out last week, and the cd is out 'soon'.
as the name of my solo side project
You all heard me say it first, right?
or we could just form a band (we formed a band) ?
You can wear a funny costume and do synths in the background if you want.
I'll settle for EXTREMELY LOUD BZZZZZZZZWAAAAAOOOP noises.
In a costume.
And in shadows.
You can chose your costume.
as an ocelot?
would we sound like?
can we have acid basslines though?
(requirement of every band I am in)
(I haven't been in any bands)
anything to do with acid jazz? If so, no.
because that is rubbish.
I mean squelchy 303 synth noises that squeal and stuff like in old rave music.
Mixed with Noisecore. And prog.
And it's a solo project, the best I can offer you is a featuring.
This thread was languishing, i claimed the name legally and honestly. No-one wanted so don't come crying to me now...
So we'll have six, simultaneously.
Other things that I don't rea;;y know what they are that we'll have:
should listen to hardfloor. you will no longer utter the phrase "i don't know what acid basslines are"
as I broke it.
But you WILL all get excited about Uncle John & Whitelock,I promise!
I'm DEFINITELY in. I don't even care if we sound like Jamiroquai.
If anyone wants an early demo...
it's 'stupid computer!'.
at T In The Park (last year? or was it this year? errrrrrrrrrrrm) and they were really pretty fab and creepy at the same time.
for saving my thread. I really hope they play at the Mogwai date I'm going to!
I'm having no thread saving. Alan can dress as whatever he likes, Ocelpots'd be tricky because i still don't know what one is.
I think he should be a clown, to add edge.
I'm also botching together a demo. I will Yousendit in a minute...
can't he be a monkey or something?
Ocelots are cats. Truth.
We'll have a whole troupe of dancing monkeys. Some with wings and some without. They can battle in a mini-war style instead of doing normal dancing. Because that's pants.
Also, you're meant to fear the clown. That's why it gives us edge. He'll be a really scary clown too. One with a sad face. And a hat
I'd sooner stab myself in the face with a rusty spoon than dress as one.
What about if you get attacked by a huge SOLID BRONZE CLOWN PUPPET?
The Monkey's can fight it. And we'll double our Acid Bassline Count as the fight progresses :D
I can't send my link. I'm sulking now.
no more of this nonsense.
Despite the fact that they've been kicking around Glasgow for a few years, I've yet to see them. I've heard they're meant to be good live, though. I'm still not convinced about his voice, so have never gone out my way to see them.
So I'm not much help either... but at least I've stayed on topic ;-)
really good live, dirty bluesy rock antics, listen here:
I'll listen when I get home.
