Again, like Wilco.
I've heard one song, it was fantastic. Where am i starting here...??
'lift yr skinny fists like antenae to heaven' is good, and i don't usually like post-rock.
the song that's title begins with 'storm..' is the best one off that, although they're all good, i just really like that one because it has horns. OOOH!
the track 'sleep: murray ostril" is breathtaking.
The 'Monheim' section where the slow, quiet bit goes to the loud, fast bit... I know, I know an obvious post rock trick but it's...just... one of 'those' moments in music for me.
There's no driver at the wheel...
I think getting the first release (F#A#oo or whatever it's called) is a good idea. It has one of the best openings to any record ever.
that record is stunning. don't get the newest, the one with bombs falling on the cover, i think thats a bit weak really, sounds a little flat to my ears.
fantastic live as well!
for Yanquie UXO?
a silver mount zion
they are a godspeed spin off and also very close to perfection, again i like the debut the best - i think that 'angles standing around your bed' is one of my fave songs ever. ever
for christmas. It's the one cd on my list i really want to hear.
all very good, it could be a bit daunting starting with Lifty yr. Skinny Fists just because of the sheer length of it. The Slow Riot for Zero Kanada EP is half an hour of pure perfection - and there's something to be said for brevity.
To listen to lots of Do Make Say Think. MORE HORNS! Post-rock + horns is like a more credible version of ska-punk.
GO FOR IT anyway!
which means NOT starting with skinny fists.
F# A# infinity
Slow Riot for New Zero Kaneda
Those are the best releases really, the Slow Riot EP being probably the cream, though it's a bit of a toss up.
(As you can see, I preferred them when they were the more grammatically correct "Godspeed You Black Emperor!")
are my all time favourite band ever ever in the world ever and 'f#a#oo' is the best thing they've ever done. much more melodic and varied and deeply wonderful and beautiful. Slow Riot and Skinny Fists are also utterly essential and wonderful. Yanqui is sadly on the dull side.
and I think the best Silver Mt Zion album is 'This is Our Punk Rock'.
Every post seems to be talking sense here, of course, if they are fans of GY!BE I wouldn't have expected any less. Personally, even though it's certainly the popular choice, I still prefer Lift Yr Skinny Fists....., it's not often an album can completely engulf you, and stimulate and inspire. Pure genius. Slow Riot.... is incredible also, Moya almost distills everything good about the band down into a relatively short 11 minutes, I guess it would be their single in a twisted world! The first album is brilliant too, I appreciated it more live, as all the impressive visuals and projections fitted these songs perfectly (I remember some train journey looking amazing or somthing haha!). Yanqui UXO is great, but don't like it as much, just not as much invention as on Skinny Fists. As the guy above says, just get them all in order, and the aforementioned Do Make Say Think, A Silver mt. Zion etc, and take a look at the rest of the Constellation records roster.
