As in the fanzine.
Now, I don't have a problem with 'zines - they are the very foundations upon which our wonderful musical world is built - but after Les Savy Fav et al last night I picked up what I think is the current issue and read the most pointless tirade I have ever witnessed.
I understand that the gentleman behind the 'zine has issues with particular brands (and be fair, they are brands nowadays) of popular music, and that other writers find it within their hollow souls to praise such acts irks him greatly, but x-hundred words bemoaning "wannabe NME" journalists is utterly out of order, especially when the piece had no point to it whatsoever.
It boiled down to: "I hate these people because they make money where I don't. I hate them because they can get paid to give something a nice write up to secure advertising money which goes towards them being able to eat. Yes I am upon my high horse and yes I've flogged it 'til it's close to tears but hell to the lot of you, I'm staying put and you will put up with my preaching."
Sorry, but it was cringeworthy, absolutely. And taking a swipe at slick websites - this being one of them I assume - only highlights the 'zine's own stylistic shortcomings. It is a mess, the writing is a mess, and years after I first began reading it I am now unlikely to ever again.
Sad, but there you go: Organ, you're your own worst enemy, and I know that I'm not the only one that knows it.
