I'm interested in this label/collective in manchester. can anyone tell me anything about them?
please no one tell me to look at their website or find some reviews. I've done that.
I post here because I want the opinion of fellow DiS board users.
whose brother ran it, once. Aren't they responsible for Nine Black Alps? This is all I know.
it just so happens I know one of the aA DJ's through work. Their nights are a bit crazy. I went to The Rampant Lion one which was a few bands including The Loungs who people on here seemed not to like. Jim Noir (new psych pop s/s) also played for them last weekend. aA are primarily Manchester, definitely Northern centric, there's about 20 of them djs/promoters. Their site always lists the dates that they're playing. The label was started by two people who were in bands already and they got Black Alps first demo also put out some Longcut stuff. They seem to like their skewered breezy pop and doing things very diy.
erm I hope that helped.
actually thank you.
start off doing house parties and it's grown to the point where NME are rabbiting on about it.
you're welcome - go to the next one and see what you think.
fog band guy. I was trying to remember which username you were. now I remember.
Have you seen the video for 'Terry' yet? my friend/drummer stuart made it. it's on myspace.com/thehotpuppies and I think it's cool.
cool bunch of guys. the akoustik anarkhy label put on a night at nambucca a while back and i had a pint with 2 guys from the label. well, really it was a pissed up rant about the sorry state of rock music.
that plopped through my letterbox yesterday. Soft Priest and Autokat are the ones that leapt out at me.
wasn't quite what I was expecting from the label but I like it. There's lots of real Old Skool Indiepop and lots of psychedelic indie rock too. Good stuff. I will be investigating further.
I'll probably try and see Autokat live. I reckon they'd be pretty good. They just played in my home town but I didn't know who they were so I missed them.
