I only have 1000 Hurts, stars well and ends well, but the middles a bit boring.
Don't discount terraformer... It's brilliant. A lot of people discount it because of the first song, but find a quiet space and really listen hard to it. Glorious.
Get the "Uranus" 7".
Get At Acton Park first and go from there...
1000 Hurts + At Action Park are essential!
cos its better.
action park is great tho.
Squirrel Song on and it makes me want to break something! its a sad fucking song.
but Terraform is really good! If the first track wasn't two notes for twelve minutes I would be worshipping at its altar.
they were real squirrels.
Sorry, but it has to be said. After the first track and the intro to track 2 it's just a pale imitation of the rest of their stuff.
Get at Action Park.
Hunt down copies of Wingwalker and the other singles (think Winwalker's on 'Uranus').
it clearly doesnt have to be said.
if a "pale imitation" means taking their old stuff, improving the songwriting and melodies whilst retaining the agression and wit, then ur stoopid
I just don't like it. I have the singles and the album, and 1000Hz just fails to grab me at all. It goes on and doesn't really get noticed. My big Shellac fan mate feels the same way.
I'd take their cover of Jailbreak over anything on 1000Hz apart from maybe a prayer to god.
and the first song in their set, at midday on a Sunday, when everyone was hungover or still mashed, was the first one off Terraform.
They were fucking with us.
I actually like the 12 minute 2-bass-note song, but not at that time of day, I was hoping for some watch song action.
At Action Park is essential, 1000 Hurts is good. Terraform is okay, but the least essential I think.
Hopefully there will be a new album before Steve Albini is 50. Or completely deaf. Or both. Shit, how old is he?
At Action Park
and any 7"s you can find.
The man who invented fire.
